Hey all, going to pick up a camper this weekend, I have a 2 weight distribution hitch’s. a equalizer and recurve 3…I’ve used them both and they do a nice job…question is….I got a set of airbags as a gift for my 2014 tundra. They are Firestone bags…I’ve never “set up” and airbag system for towing….since I’m able to get the truck pretty level and get my front axle weight back close to unhooked with the hitch…is there another advantage to running bags along with the WD hitch? Do I just dial in my hitch then fine tune the attitude of the truck with the bags? I was going to install them tonight or tomorrow and was just wondering the preferred procedure with the bags and hitch. For reference the tongue weight of the trailer is rated at 505 and over all dry weight is 5600. Yes I know I need to confirm these aa advised numbers are….well not always correct. Trailer is 28 feet long!
    Thanks all! Happy camping

That is what I usually do - set up the hitch to restore as much weight to the front axle as I can, then air the bags up a little get the rear spring rate up and the tail back to close to factory rake. Though I sometimes leave a little squat in the rear suspension. Takes some fiddling and doesn’t usually take as much air as one would suspect, but I’m usually pleased with the results.

Occasionally I do things in the reverse order and hitch up with some air in the bags before adjusting the hitch (usually because I was just pulling a different trailer with a WD hitch or I unloaded the bed and didn’t air down the bags first). Either way works, TBH.

I run a similar legnth camper with bags and a Hensley hitch have always adjusted the bags first, then set up the Hensley. I set my bags so I have 1" above level in the rear then attach the trailer and set the weight distribution so I am level or within a quarter inch from my front. Truck loaded is 6880 trailer 6550 to 6750 depending on water...usually run with 5 gallons for emergency stops

Awesome thank you, I did just about the same thing tonight and it worked out well. Running way less air in the bag than I thought.

Bags first. If you change the height after setting up the wdh, you are reducing the distribution. For me, towing an 8k lbs trailer, I run the bags as helpers at 7-8 psi. Scales will show you impacts on rear axle weight if they are taking load. Happy towing
