I can't seem to find an answer...does anyone else's truck switch from recirculate to outside air without you pressing the button? My truck will inevitably switch to outside air if I press the recirculate button. However, if I press the outside air button, it will stay there happy as can be. It does this both on AC or heat, and it does it whether in auto or not. Seems my truck wants outside air all the time, regardless of what I want.

I do have an appointment with my dealers' service department soon and will inquire with them as well.

Picture is for reference, not my trucks dash. Thanks.Tundra Dash.jpg

Are your defroster vents on? Does it do this if you only use floor vents?

I seem to remember reading somewhere this is a function to ensure fresh air is circulated periodically to prevent the cabin being stale.I’ll try to find that reference.

Which modern cars? My 2021 VW Atlas sure doesn't. I can choose between the two and it will stay until I switch it.

Thanks for finding an answer. I still find it very annoying that there is an 'auto' button, yet the entire system seems to be on 'auto' all the time. Thanks again.

My 2008 tundra does that. Have to hold recirculate for it to stay on, otherwise it turns off after like 10 minutes.

Recirc is only useful for heating/cooling the cabin faster and for keeping out smoke/odors. You should try just using the fresh air setting in most other situations.
