I was replacing the original filter on a 2015 1794 (15k) and found this thin layered element attached to the cover. Am I supposed to rip that out as it was glued pretty good? Or is it just maybe stuck due to the heat and I should just rip it out? My Wix came with another layer at the bottom, and this seems to have it at the top of the box.

Not as of right now. It kinda looks like a layer of desiccant or something stuck to the box cover. it covers it completely. Have never seen that on any of my cars I've had.

Wix has it attached to the bottom when you insert it into the box, and not towards the top.

Yes, something like that. Does every Tundra come with that? Should it be taken out and thrown out?

Yes. I was baffled as I've never seen it before on any car.

I wonder if this thing gets clogged down the road with stuff escaping the filter if there's a leak somewhere. Oh well, I left it untouched for now and just replaced the filter. Air cabin was filthy for 15k miles on it. Replaced with ACDelco carbon filter

Leave it in. I think its part of the emission system. Air gets filtered before getting to it. I removed mine on my Tacoma and it did nothing but likely allow dirtier air go through

Most guys never notice it. I thought it was odd but I didn't remove it because I thought it was glued in on the edges and would be a big mess.

Removing it doesn't let more air in at anything close to normal driving rpms. Maybe and I mean maybe at redline levels. No reason to remove it. It may be a bit louder but you'll get zero actual gains, guys have done dynos and proved zero actual gains. They are there to trap gasses when the engine turns off, emissions stuff. It isn't robbing power by any means. I remember reading that air moves through the intake at 1 or 2 mph when driving 70mph, drop in "performance" filters or removing the charcoal filter do nothing but let more dirt and crap enter your engine with the same amount of air that was going in before you changed your filter.

I replaced stock with TRD filter. While I was there installed air accelerator. Anything to help breathe . I agree W/PUDGE ^^^. Also, the way I looked at it, charcoal filter may help with MAF sensor issues - carbon, potential oil residue from filter, etc..
