    Hi all,

I need a air filter case for my 2003 3.4L Tundra. This is the part I need:

Air Cleaner Assembly - Toyota (17700-07080)
    https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem/toyota~cleaner~assy~air~17700-07080.html

It appears to be discontinued and I can't find a new or aftermarket version anywhere. I found a used one on Ebay, but it's pricey and looks like junk.

There are lots of aftermarket available to replace part number 17700-07060, as far as I can tell these are for Tacomas or 4Runners.

    https://www.google.com/search?q=toyota+5vz-fe+air+cleaner+assembly

Does anyone know if these will fit in my truck? Or even better, an aftermarket version for my specific part number?

    Thanks

Stick with OEM. Stay away from aftermarket air intakes, or anything with an oiled filter.

www.car-part.com to find a yard somewhere near you that has a compatible 2000-2004 Tundra w/V6 airbox (you want pre-VVTi, so no 2005-2006)

Currently have a Volant CAI with oiled filter (not my doing, came with the truck). I would much rather get it back to OEM, hence my search for a factory air box. Just curious, though, what's the downside to the CAI? Do I risk doing damage if I keep it?

You risk extra cleaning, dirtying stuff up using oiled filters. I remember one dude on here posted what his TB looked like, and there was like 2-4mm of shit built up where the butterfly met the throttle body wall.

If the Volant has been on there for any period of time, when you rollback to OEM, pop into the LAPS to get a can of CRC throttle body cleaner to clean the throttle body, and a can of CRC MAF sensor cleaner.

Two big mistakes to avoid cleaning the TB: Don't spray TB cleaner directly into the TB, and don't let the butterfly slam shut when you do clean. Spray the TB cleaner directly into the TB, apply it to a shop cloth and wipe, I think that's the two big mistakes to avoid. Oh ... and before you get started, pop off the negative battery cable (only the negative) so that, when you get done, the ECU will conveniently forget its tune, and force a re-learn, since its operation will changeair-flow wise. For the MAF, you've gotta pull it out anyway. I'd pull it before you get started, drench it (see video below) and set it aside to return to room temp (MAF cleaner will chill it significantly, and it'll hold moisture for a bit).

Expect the truck may idle funny for a few minutes after you finish everything. Take it on a short drive with some stop-and-go, and maybe a short 55-75mph jaunt for a couple miles mixed in.

    MAF:

TB deep clean - you really don't need to get this deep, just opening the butterfly and cleaning the walls and the butterfly is sufficient:

You rock, shifty, thanks for the info! I actually just did a deep clean on the TB, but not the MAF sensor; will do that next. I was getting ready to put the Volant back on but really don't want to - prompted me to make this post. Looks like there's a few options on car-part.com so going to pursue that. Thanks again and happy Easter :)

As far as CAI's go, Volant is probably the best, because they have their own air box, a few different filter styles, and a prefilter option for the cone style filters

And for these reasons, resale may be a viable option for you on it to recoup expense. There are, believe it or not, folks out there running them here, and interested in buying them used for the reasons assdog mentions. I'm not sure Volant makes one anymore. Save the brackets and hardware.

    Imma keep it stock
Any non vvti 2UZ AC or RC air box will fit the 5VZ. It’s the same box and uses the same air filter.
