I was reading through the owners manual of a new to me 2010 Tundra. I could have sworn I read that leaving the key switch on(engine not running) with the air conditioner on would run the battery down quickly. Has anyone else read that or know anything about it? Or maybe I just read it wrong.

If thats true, it's a new one on me. Of course, I tend to own older vehicles and this 2010 model is the newest vehicle I own, so I stay a little behind on vehicle technology.

I would say that that goes for any vehicle if you leave the vehicle in the on position but not running and having your AC running, you would be wearing down your battery because at that point if your vehicle is not running everything that is on in your vehicle is running on battery power. your battery is recharged by your alternator while your vehicle is on and running

Of course it's gonna run down the battery, plus it won't cool anything because the compressor will not be turning.
True of every auto out there.

I understand how a charging system and cooling system works on a vehicle. And I know that anything that runs on a vehicle with the engine not running is pulling directly from the battery. I just thought it was odd the owners manual mentioned leaving the air conditioner on would run the battery down faster. For example, the owners manual didnt say playing the radio or leaving the lights on without the engine running would run the battery down faster than normal. Maybe it's me that just thinks this is odd.

Im thinking maybe its because the blower motor pulls a lot of current. But I still think its odd to be mentioned in the owners manual.

Could be. And maybe energizing the compressor clutch. Just a thought.

It does sometimes seem that the authors of many operators manuals have never operated anything in their lives.

It could also be in there for that dumb chick that doesn't know anything about vehicles so that they don't sit there running their AC with their vehicle off and then wonder why their vehicle won't run like it should... But yes very strange for it to be mentioned in the owner's manual

Yes we just want hot chicks driving Tundras, none of those smart ones.

About the Manual comment, as mentioned previously by others I think that the big electrical draw and what would occur was pretty smart on Yotas part to mention.

Looking both ways before crossing the busy highway would also be worth mentioning in all vehicle owners manuals based on the number of that type of accident that occur but they leave that out
