    Hi folks,
i have a 2020 Tundra, and have been reading about the Toyota v8 engines having a issue with the air injection pumps failing, then causing a limp mode. I dont have this yet, and there are I believe 3 bypass units available, buy Hewitt is the only one available for the 5.7 2020 models, the other 2 which are considerable cheaper work for older models.

First of all is this an issue to worry about on the 2020s, as Toyota did some design change in 2014 I believe, and is there anything other than Hewitt or DIY available for the 2020 5.7?

One YouTuber mentioned to drill a small hole in the bottom of each cover so they don’t fill up with water.

This is the first I'm hearing of it it. Warranty is still covering so i'm not going to go in and do any preventative maint on something that would be normally covered.

I had some issues with the system on my 2013. I was outside the warranty but with one call to corporate Toyota they covered repairs. No issues with my 2020 currently. I would let it ride.

I had P2441 code on my truck, and they believe its due to the S&B intake, its covered by warranty and now I don't have the cool intake sound :(

I am in a country where they dont officially sell Tundras, they sell hilux, 70 series pickups and sequioa but no tundra. But we have a lot of grey market imports, used and brand new from the US or Canada, the Tundras are way cheaper than what the local dealers charge for RAMS, F150s, and GMC/Chevy for the full size trucks. Hence my question if preventive maintenance is required on the Air injection pumps before they become an issue.

Of all the things to worry about, I’d wait until they became an issue. Or if it takes awhile to ship to your country, order the Hewitt kit and just wait til they go out. You could have other issues though and youd waste a lot of money doing preventative maintenance on everything when it might not break.

Does Toyota still warranty tundras where you live? I lived in Germany and car dealers there would still do warranty work on American spec cars.

No Toyota does not warranty here, the issue is that we are a small country, and there is usually just 1 or 2 dealers for each brand, sometimes the local business group has multiple brands, such as Toyota's business group has FCA, Honda as well. The warranty they give has a clause that all the services must be formed at their place as per maintenance schedule, as you guessed it the oil and filter double in price, let alone the labour. By not having a warranty, my oil changes halved in price, don't need to call a call centre to book, as I just buy the oil/filter myself, and get a small garage to do it when I want for a fraction of the cost. Oh I dont get a fancy coffee from them, but who cares.

I wouldn't worry about it on a 2020 for a few years. I'm risking it on my 2017 as well currently due to the cost of the only kit that works on the new version of the system that runs at key off. If install a bypass now it's just a plug and play module, but if you wait until after failure, depending on which failure mode, you may also have to install the block off plates and possibly get a pump bypass module in addition. Possibly. I'll take the risk that they fail closed and I can just plug n play the bypass at that point. Or maybe someone will come out with a cheaper option by then like the $50 version I ran on my 4runner and older tundra.

Do you have a parts list on what you put together? Is it really just AN fittings, line, clamps, and a filter?

Edit:Just installed it and the measurements of the tube coming off the pump is 7/8” ID so change accordingly. I still used the 5/8” and just clamped it down tighter

I haven’t installed it because my back keeps going out. Hopefully this weekend.

    But I bought:
    5/8” ID hose
    4x total hose clamps
2x 5/8” 90 degree fittings (pump hose to new hose)
2x 5/8” to 3/4 fittings (for hose to air filter)
    2x breather filters
4-pack of 1/2” tube straps from HD

All in $70. I was going to go AN fittings but it’s more money around +$40 depending the fittings you purchase.

Yes there is a kit on ebay that sells for 50usd or less, but not for the 2020, I asked the ebay seller already.

The SDHQ is another method of nipping this problem before it occurs, but the price is steep for what it is. I would appreciate a list of key parts to buy in order to replicate, namely the fittings thread and diameter, and I can use any other type of air filter that is applicable

So the air injection have software that blows the pumps in reverse to clear any moisture. This video from 7.40 explains, does not mention a year.
