So like a dumbass I have had my dorman heated seat kit for over a year waiting to install, but only decided now is the time to do it when temperatures have dropped to the single digits here…..

I have the full kit for driver and passenger side. My question is this: I currently have clazzio leather seat covers over top of the factory cloth. Can I install the heaters directly on top of the factory cloth and then reinstall the clazzios? Or should I remove the factory cloth, install the heaters directly to the seat foam and then reinstall the clazzios?

    thanks in advance.

I'd install the heaters as close to you as possible for greater efficacy, and if you're not planning on having the seats return to cloth, there's not much use putting them underneath that.

That being said, if you're thinking you want the seat heaters to be a permanent installation, it's not a bad process to install them properly under the cloth, great walkthroughs on YouTube. Took me about 2 hours by removing the seats, easiest to work on them indoors with warmth.

Yeah I was thinking I was going to keep open the option of going back to cloth if I ever sold or traded in the truck….wondering if it would ruin the cloth to install over top of the factory cloth. Looking for a quick way to do this with temps being so low and it’s my daily driver so I can’t exactly have the seats out for extended periods of time.

If you put the sticky side of the heater pads towards the seat covers, it would likely keep them in place, and I doubt the heat is sufficient to harm the cloth on either side of it.
