Aftermarket GPS options

What do you all recommend for aftermarket GPS? I've been contemplating Kenwood or an iPad Pro. Anyone use an iPad either in dash or not? How do you like it? I'm looking for something reliable for traveling across country.

I wanted off road Topo maps and found them. Good on road gps are abundant.
The overlander crowd has some good technology for off road stuff.
The iPad mini sets on the dashboard and gives me accurate information with topography and forest road information
