After 12 days of ownership someone slammed into the back of me. Beyond my personal injuries (severe) my truck is being looked at. I am thinking it may be totaled... I am not sure what the insurance company is going to try and do but it's a hard to find truck. 1k miles on it so I'd imagine very little depreciation.

Is that truck from the future?! (Title says gen 4…)

Seriously though, that sucks. A truck is a truck, but your health is another matter. Hoping for a speedy and complete recovery.

Have seen way worse damage than that and not totaled. 100% that’s going to the dealer to be fixed. Also, 2024 is still Gen3.

I've also seen what looks nowhere near as bad as yours and it was totaled, so you never know. My uncle got rear-ended in his 2021 Tacoma last year in what looked like a fender-bender, but the frame was damaged and they ended up totaling it.

I spoke to a few friends of mine which are insurance adjusters and they said the same thing. The bed is tucked under and it looks as though the frame may be bent. I'm just not sure what I will do either way. That was an 80k dollar truck. So, do I try and find a 1794 TRD OR with lift, TRD PRO or hope it doesn't total?

Yeah, they'll fix that most likely. Truck doesn't look that horrible. What injuries did you suffer, back/neck? They make vehicles these days to give vs holdup against accidents. I'm curious of the speeds and what not...

I'll discuss injuries at a later date. I'm alive if that's any indication.

I used to buy at insurance auctions and I can tell you if the frame is bent it will be totaled. It may take a little protest on your part to keep them honest. If this was a not at fault accident on your part you will also be entitled to a dimensished value settlement. A truck like this will bring a premium price at an insurance auction because it is technically repairable and a rare truck. Insurance companies consider all of this when considering if they will total or not.

You're the most valuable asset you have, the truck can be replaced by the ins co. That's their job.
Focus on you! Worked with the PT/OT/AT staff at hospitals and clinics for the last 40+ years, they are the bomb at what they do, getting you back to square one.
The truck aspect will work itself out. Cheers and good luck!

Wow - that really sucks, but as others have said, your health is much more important than your truck.

Make sure you go for diminished value if they don't total it. Search this site and you'll find more info.

Daughters new 4 runner was rear-ended with 300 miles on it,insurance company offered 12k below purchase price, had to get an attorney to send a letter and finally settled 2 months later with a 3500 loss plus fees vehicle had 21k estimated damage and they still didn't total it

In all fairness they were calling gen 2.5 gen 3 for a while (not sure who decided to start calling them 2.5 or who decided to call them gen 3) so gen 4 makes sense in a weird way.

As far as I know, that was just on this site. There were enough differences between the '15 and '16 models that (I may be off a year or two) this forum started calling the new trucks Gen 3. Then, when Toyota called the '22 models Gen 3, our moderators adjusted by changing models up to the '21's Gen 2.5. The Gen 2.5's were called Gen 3's for a few years before Toyota came out with the "official" Gen 3's.

If it is totalled and replaced, I’d go for a colour that’s easier for other drivers to see. But seriously! How do you run into that??

Hope the healing is speedy, and the fixing is painless.

Yeah, the guys whose 2014+ trucks had a mild facelift wanted to think that their trucks were sooo much different and better than the ‘07-‘13 trucks, even though it was still the same exact truck underneath, and the model code from Toyota (XK50) had not changed. Yes, some aftermarket stuff like bumpers fit the later 2nd gen trucks differently, but that doesn’t mean it’s a new generation.

According to Toyota, ‘07-‘21 is all 2nd gen.

Hope they total it, if not you gonna take a big hit when you trade or sell.

Damn. Those limited TRD OR are so clean now that they paint match the trim pieces. And in a great color to be paint matched.
It doesn’t look bad but if the frame is bent it’s out.

Well, the frame is bent. Supposedly it's a common occurrence on Tundras. Now I have to see what happens with insurance. In my area no one does frame swaps due to having (2) titles and it does not put me back in "pre-loss condition".

Now is the some what fun question of TRD PRO or buy the same Limited TRD OR built out vehicle. I like the 3" TRD lift over the 1.5" lift on a Pro.

Go Pro in a different color, maybe the color don’t suit you.

Well, this sucks. I got confirmation lastnight from the at fault parties insurance company that they do not carry high enough limits. So, now I'm having to file an uninsured motorist claim on my insurance to cover the difference. This is a commercial nightmare.

If anyone is curious the at fault parties insurance said the truck is worth 78k. I'm not going to comment beyond that but if anyone is curious as to depreciation on a Tundra this is a decent indication. It had 1100 miles on it BTW.

That really sucks. Maybe you can shop around and get a better price for your replacement than you did for this truck.

I am about sick of people damn. So sorry you are even dealing with this. Bastard didn't see that bright orange truck? Our bodies are never the same after something like this let alone the truck.
From first pics I suspected bent frame but not as pronounced as in the later pics! Metal is a little more chincy than I prefer.
I am sure it has drivetrain issues now too. I bent a 6 mo. old 1985 Xtra cab 4x4 rolling it way back when with the bed looking like that-bent down. Poor girl shuddered so bad in reverse I knew she was totaled even though the cab(and lights on rollbar even)was untouched.
I would demand a new truck. Best of luck with your health and this ugly situation. Accidents just suck.
