AFE Tow Hooks

I know a lot of you were looking into tow hooks. I haven't seen these mentioned. Looks like they attach to the frame via the sway bar mounts.

They're currently shipping out tow hooks. Mine are on the way.

 

It happens, so many threads get added its hard to keep up. I had just looked at the other one and knew there was already some discussion so was trying to loop you in.

Has anyone received / installed them yet?

 

Mine shipped today. Now photo up on the product page showing a strap attached.

 

I'm looking forward to seeing reviews on these, especially from people who have partially buried the front end in snow or mud. It just looks like a good way to tear up the front bumper and only really useful in desert applications.

 

At a marginal angle, just hope your nose isnt pitched down.

 

I completely understand the concern. It is up against the front lower bumper. With that being said, if I were stuck and had no choice but to use the front tow hook that could damage that piece of plastic - so be it. I would rather take that chance and get out vs, not have any other option.

It does not look like we need the TRD-Pro Skid plate to install these - Do you all agree

No real complaints with this AFE product more so with the abysmal design of the front to not incorporate tow hooks to begin with.

 

If you're getting the ICON lift kit with the drop spacers for the sway bar mounting brackets. This might be an issue.

Not sure of the issue with the TRD PRo skid plate?? I having the TRD Off Road package with he "plastic" skid plates.
Will the AFE tow hooks install be the same?

 

The tow hooks sits under the sway bar brackets.

 

My tow hooks are due to arrive tomorrow! AFE emailed me that they would not be shipping until July, pleasant surprise. As soon as I get back getting my rear axle recall service taken care of Thursday, I will install.

Had to bend this tab back to remove the lower bracket.

 

Can't see them from above really.

 

You might need a really heavy rope.

They look pretty good otherwise.

 

Can you hook up a strap/rope/etc to one of them for us, put tension on it, then measure the highest angle (in degrees) you can point the strap UP, without touching the bumper, etc?

That Westcott prototype looks decent, but it needs to look "OEM" for me to cut my bumper covers and run them.
If they can make the hooks/rings look "professional", and include some kind of molding to go around the cut openings (perhaps a snap in piece) I'll bite.

If it ends up looking like I took a hack saw and just mounted 2 'unfinished' hooks then no thanks.
Hope they can execute it well.
