Going to list my 09 Tundra for sell. Frustrated with trade in values from Dealers. Any advice from others that have sold their Tundras themselves.
Is a Auto Trader a good start?

AutoTrader is a flat fee listing service ($50 for 2 months, $25 for each month thereafter?). I received no bonified interest from my AutoTrader listing, but I did get lots of attention from genuine con artists. And, I'm not talking about sharpies trying to steal your vehicle for next to nothing, I'm talking about fraudulent exchange games. Be careful there.

I have had best luck on CarGurus.com. The disadvantage is CarGurus is a dealer supported site, and as an private seller your listing gets low-priority treatment compared to dealers. Example: If your asking price is near dealer asking, that gets you a "Poor" deal rating where the dealer's price is a "Great" deal. The result is your listing will be further down the listing queue, and will never be seen.

CarGurus doesn't cost anything if you don't sell the car. They have a selling service where they are supposed to take care of all the paperwork, financing, and title transfer for you (for a fee in additon to the sale fee). I preferred to stay involved with vetting the buyer and the cash/title exchange. To do this, I was pretty much limited to a local or intrastate sale. I didn't want CarGurus accepting an offer on a ten-year-old, $10K vehicle from an internet kook playing around in Philadelphia, just to have the deal fall through when they couldn't find financing, or somehow had the idea paying to ship the car was my responsibility.

For me, ebay Motors is a non-starter. Threw more money down that rathole than I'll admit.

I haven't tried Craigslist for a vehicle sale...because of all the stories about scams, muggings, etc. :D

Not with vehicle sales but I've had decent luck with Facebook marketplace for general stuff. Sold 5 things in about 2 weeks.

Absolutely agree. I sold a brand-new assembled Harbor Freight cement mixer on FM for $50 less than I paid (thought I would take a bigger hit). I could've sold two or three more if I had them.

I would try FM for a vehicle sale I believe.

I think Craigslist now charges for vehicle sales.

    Edit - $5 per vehicle

Be smart. Do all transactions at your bank.

I once was selling a built front D60 axle for 4500.00. Guy met me at the bank and had a cashiers check from his bank. The cashier was taking her sweet time and the manager came out and apologized and said their system crashed and couldn’t check funds. I was a little irritated after 20 min but was in full understanding rather quick.
The cashiers check was from a real bank, real account, but that bank closed down 1.5 years earlier. Police came in and arrested this POS and I filed a report and pressed charges. That MF tried to steal 4500.00 from me.

Well, regards scammers, I was reading the Banned Memorial Thread today: Our mods deliver swift justice to those that would steal from their fellow Tundrats.

This forum I have no experience with selling, but on the 4Runner forums I found they were about beating the hell out of 1st Gen trucks off-roading and were interested at half the price collector markets were bringing. In other words, you may be able to get more money in other sales venues than forums where the members are well-informed and have cold unsentimental purposes for a vehicle. Tundras.com members cover a wider spectrum than other forums, and are not all about off-roading. It's worth a shot. :D

Lots of successful sales on Tundras.com.

The Staff takes this very seriously and has rules placed for your protection. We get a lot of negative feedback about these rules, but time and experience states otherwise.

See people with their vehicles for sale in empty lot areas near my neighborhood, not junkers, but locals trying to sell them with sale signs in them, not sure how effective this is.

Craig's List and FB Marketplace can be hit or miss. I've had good luck selling on craig's list. Not to be racist here, but if a buyer with the name of Patel, Umesh, Chopra etc... i don't answer, they'll bargain the shit out of you. lol

I have sold cars through Craigslist and Facebook local area groups plus the Facebook market place is blowing up. Craigslist charge $5 now to list a car for sale which has helped with some of the fraudsters. It is pretty easy to pick out the legitimate people there.

I have a friend that is a higher up at a Toyota dealership. He told me I could leave my 2011 Tacoma down on the lot to sale it. It sat for months with literally no bites. I put the truck on Craigslist and sold it in 2 days.

I actually have a friend who posted some rims for sale, showed up to the meeting place, and the “buyer” robbed and shot him. He survived but yeah, screw craigslist. This was in Shreveport. Maybe if you’re in a nicer area of the world CL would be ok.

For a CL sale, I would probably bring a witness (my wife), and my 40S&W. Only trouble is, if the perp tried anything, it wouldn't be good for either of us...my wife can't shoot for ****. I might have to send her to conduct the transaction; at least I could hit the evildoer with ten in the mag. :(

Everybody looking for stuff looks thru Craigslist, we even have a couple Craigslist threads on this forum. Communicate with the buyer and when he/she serious and legit meet up at a safe area.

I have sold several cars ranging from $8,000 to $100,000 through EBay. Always worked for me.
Craigslist, not so much. Mostly low ball offers.

FB, ClL, Auto Trader are posdibilities. I believe results vary regionally.

Price your truck fairly. Book out NADA, Kelly Blue Book etc.
    Include in your adds:
    -Serious Inquiries only
    -Cash only
    -Will not ship
-I do not need help selling
Make them come to your area of convenience.

Check out Carmax or similar in your area, get cash offer, you may be surprised.

The last few things I have sold including a vehicle I instruct to text only to my cell and that I do not answer unknown numbers. This seems to weed out many of the D-Bags and gets the more serious buyers thru.

    Good luck!
