Hoping someone could take a look at the dealer maintenance notes that I found on a Tundra that I am very close to purchasing. The Carfax didn’t show any maintenance history. I logged into the Toyota site and was able to find a lot of information. I started looking at Tundras because I want a truck that will last. The more I read, it seems like there are a lot of problems. Does a transmission typically get replaced at 100-130k miles? I thought that this is something that would last- but I’m not technical/mechanical at all. Here are the notes:
SEE ASR ~|~CUSTOMER STATES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AFTER THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO HESITATE WHEN ACCELERATING. SOMETIMES TAKES A SECOND TO RESPONSE THEN CATCHES CAUSING THE WHEELS TP SPIN ~|~DIAGNOSIS ~|~96514 PERFORMED DIAGNOSIS FOR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CODES P2714 P0761 FOR SOLENOID D AND C STUCK OFF, SEES SLIPPING IN TRANSMISSION AND DEBRIS IN VALVE BODY. QUOTES ON ASR FOR COMPLETE PRICING ALSO NOTED OTHER ISSUES WITH TRUCK.

the dealer sent the car to auction and I have been speaking with the used car dealership that bought the truck. Of course no mention of transmission issues.

    i appreciate any input.

Did they actually replace the transmission? Maybe they are going to sell it to you and you can do it instead ;)

I just sent the same information to the dealer and asked them what service was done. Interesting thing is that the Carfax didn’t pick up any of the service activity from the dealership. It looks like the truck was never serviced. When I use the Toyota owners site I can see that the service was done every 5k, but once these transmission issues were discovered, the truck went right to auction. Is it normal for this to happen or is this one just potentially a lemon?

If the truck was used to tow a lot and the transmission wasn't ever serviced, this wouldn't be all that abnormal. It's also possible that simply exchanging the dirty fluid for clean fluid would fix the issue.

It reads like it was traded in and not serviced. I have dealer notes on my 90s Lexus that stated service was declined and 20 minutes later accepted. Dealer wasn't willing to repair it either, so it was sent to auction. This is my interpretation.
