I recently acquired a 2001 Toyota Tundra due to my father-in-laws death. It does not have cruise control. Can you tell me if the truck is pre-wired for cruise control, and or there any more parts required other than just the cruise control lever on the steering wheel?

Could be wrong here, but I think Cruise Control wasn’t an option until 2002. Not sure but some experts will hopefully chime in.

I’m pretty sure it was an option from ‘00, at least here in Canadia.

OP, since the earlier throttle bodies are cable operated, installing cruise involves installing an actuator with throttle cable, cruise module, switch stalk, likely a different 4-pin brake pedal switch... And I don’t know if any Tundras were pre-wired or not.

I did this with used OEM parts on my ‘01 Corolla years ago, which was not pre-wired. It was a lot of work.

If you’re serious, find another ‘01 Tundra with cruise, compare to yours to see if it is pre-wired to begin with.

Thanks for your reply. I removed the air bag on the steering wheel. It has the male plug to receive the cruise control switch. I know this does not prove it's available or pre-wired.

This might be a good question for @empty_lord.

    Very knowledgeable fella!

My personal gut instinct says that since you have the plug odds are that the rest of the wiring would be there. I am NOT an expert so do not take my word as gospel.

    Also, welcome to the community.

That is a good sign. The connector I’d be most excited to find would be the actuator connector under the hood, based on the sketches I think it might sit behind the airbox???

The connector looks like the one on this actuator:

Ha! I almost tagged you here after seeing your part-out thread. Any chance of a picture of the location of the cruise actuator?

The 1st Gen tundras are drive by wire. I don't believe there is any need for additional actuators. Just need the switch and to make sure the wires / fuses are all hooked up. I've read that you may need a different brake switch though. A 4 prong instead of a 2 prong? someone else may have more info on this.

00-02 used drive by wire but involved a gas pedal cable.. weird setup

Upon further inspection my 00' is still cable actuated.
