Let me start off by saying I am a noob at electrical wiring especially automotive wiring.

I purchased a blue seas fuse block to install multiple accessories to (see below). I want all accessories to require Ignition on to power up. It is my understanding if I run all my wiring to the Blue Seas fuse block I should be able to accomplish this. My issue is that I am unsure how to interface the Blue Seas fuse block to an accessory-on fuse? I figured I need a relay and an add-a-fuse but I am not sure if that is the correct approach. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

    External Accessories
    • LED Light Bar
    • Air Compressor
    • Hood Lights
    • Backup Lights
    • Front Camera
    Internal Accessories
    • Heated seats (front and rear - 4 total)
    • Power Inverter
    • Dual USB x2

switch pros is your friend for accessories (lights and compressor). if you replace the dash cigarette lighters with USB chargers, you can just use factory wiring. heated seats could go to the fuse block or you could get by with an add-a-fuse. inverter is a whole other can of worms. are you sure you need it?

my blue sea only has ham radio and stereo amp wired to it since everything else goes through the switch pro unit.

a fuse block and an add-a-fuse are two separate animals. you do not need both. an add-a-fuse will allow you to use a location in the factory fuse block, such as the one under the driver side kick panel.

the fuse block is wired direct to the battery. if you run the fuse block, put a fuse between it and the battery.

    Thanks for the response.
The Power Inverter is a 12v automative inverter. I figured I would hard wire it (with accessory on) and wire in a switch to toggle on/off when not in use.
I like the idea of Switch Pros, I dont like the cost of Switch Pros. I am trying to avoid dropping $500+ on something I can learn how to do.
Thanks for clarifying the difference. I thought that would be the approach to "power on ignition" the entire fuse block, which is my goal.
I will purchase a circuit breaker (if that works) to put in between the fuse block and the battery. I have watched hours upon hours of youtube videos on wiring. I am struggling to find one that includes the part about the "ignition-on" part.

    Again, thanks for the response.

fuse block is wired direct to battery. when the ignition is on, it's on.

if you do not use a fuse block, you will need switches and relays for every accessory. you will also need a place to mount the switches and relays. can you do everything separately? totally. is the price of a switch pros worth the convenience? without a doubt.

what's your reasoning for having an inverter?

    • fair enough. I thought it would be a good idea to save from accidentally flipping a switch and draining my battery. I thought if I wire directly to the battery and turn the switch on, the accessory will turn on because of the fact that I didnt tap into an "ignition-on power source.
    • I understand what you are saying about the switch-pros. I think I will give it a go myself this time. If the juice is no longer worth the squeeze I will go with switch-pros.
    • I work in IT and am often in my truck with my laptop. It would be nice to be able to charge my laptop as needed. I use it often as of now. I just want to wire it in instead of having to plug into my cigarette plug manually.

do you mean putting a switch between the fuse block and the battery? your accessories (i.e. lights) will have their own switches.

last place i want to deal with the day job is in my truck. that shit goes nowhere near it. it's one of the few places i can go to escape from them. if you really want to charge your laptop, i'd pick up a 12v charger rather than deal with the inverter. you could could off the lighter plug then hardwire it to your fuse block. just remember to put the appropriate size fuse in the block. leave the laptop end in the center console or something.
