i own a 2000 Toyota tundra with a a340e in it, I was wondering if there is any difference between it and a Tacoma/4runner or any other Toyota products

    Transmission Info

The A340 (A340E, A340F, A340H) and the AW4 are sister transmissions. The AW4 is commonly found in Jeeps, such as 1987-2001 Cherokees.

The A340E, A340F, A340H transmission is found in Toyota cars, trucks and SUVs and a few Mitsubishis, Kias, Lexus cars and SUVs, and Volvos.

    Applications

Some models of these vehicles have an A340 transmission:
    • 1992 to 2010 Toyota 4Runner
    • 1992 to 1998 Toyota Supra L6 3.0L without Turbo
    • 1993 to 1998 Toyota Supra L3 3.0L with Turbo
    • 1993 to 1998 Toyota T100
    • 1995 to 2017 Toyota Tacoma
    • 2000 to 2004 Toyota Tundra
    • Some 1990 to 2005 Kia, Lexus, Mitsubishi and Volvo
Some international vehicles, such as Soarer

The A340 was offered in 3 different casings (depending on year and application).

There are 9 different stock pans. These 9 stock pans have 4 different depths and 7 different dipstick receiver heights and angles. There are 13 different filters and 15 different valve bodies.

Each A340 will be equipped with a sticker on top of the trans letting you know what series it is and also a corresponding model tag can be found on the right rear of the case half. Only those that precede with a serial number of 35000 are compatible with our trucks. The second number and the number printed on the sticker will indicate the valve body and trans pan configuration. The correct valve body is necessary in order to properly communicate with the ECM.

Sounds like my old truck with 3spd column shift, it was stupidly simple, damn shift linkage was whack.

Not saying it’s your case, but I hope it is equally simple.

So you've already gone through the FSE and the A340 Repair manual to determine this?

The rebuild kit is $1600. New is not currently available and reman is $3700. I paid $1800 including core, shipping and tax. 3y/30k warranty parts and labor. I'll keep my old trans and maybe rebuild it one day or not.

Take notes in TBM’s thread there on the 5 or 6 major variations, at least I remember him showing a couple of major differences, I believe with valve bodies?

    ^^^THIS^^^
5VZ vs 2UZ, 4WD vs 2WD, ABS vs non-ABS, ALL DIFFERENT VALVE BODIES!!!!

After pulling the trans, remove both trans pans and verify the casting numbers. You may just have to swap VBs from yours to the donor. It's not a big deal to do so. Might as well replace with a new filter while you are in there.
