Is there some sort of device that allows our trucks the be governed by RPM as opposed to speed?

I found keeping truck under 2k up and over the wasatch mountains last weeke d produced 19 mpg with speeds from 65 to 85. As opposed to setting the cruise at 75 and returning about 14.

I understand - we dont drive them for their gas milage. Just curious if something like that exists.

Can't be a help to answer your question. But I almost never use the cruise control in any of my vehicles for that very reason. I have noticed that the mileage drop while using cruise in my tundra is the most drastic drop out of all my vehicles. As such, it pretty much never gets used.

What you're looking for would be known as a throttle position lock. I use one on my motorcycle, the issue with a throttle lock is you can actually end up going much faster than you want to be going but I do wish it was an option since I also dont use cruise at all unless its a flat highway since I hate how much it will unlock the torque converter and down shift. A steady foot is always the best practice. Unless you have a stick shift then cruise control is pretty sweet.

My right foot is better then that million dollar cruise control, about 1 mpg better at lease…lol

Some tunes have that. I have one on my 2010. I use S mode on tow/haul. It will stay in 6th gear until the rpm drops below 1500, then it will automatically downshift to 5th. I can also downshift it manually to keep the rpm's slightly below 2000. It's called Gear Lock and Direct Shift. Direct Shift feature for upshifting. No ecu interference provided the rpm will not go down below 1500 after upshift. If rpm is below 1500, then ecu takes over like stock. Which means it may upshift right away or it may not.

I use my cc all the time, 70mph in Florida. I'll have to try the old steady foot for a week and see if I get better mpg.

Interesting - I'll give those terms a Google and see what I can dig up.
