They're trading reliability for volumetric efficiency. You can have something that runs 500k miles or you can add the heat to pump more power out of an amount of fuel. No free lunches. One side gets a truck for 50 years, the other side gets a truck for 50k miles or whenever the lease runs out.

    All for emissions requirements.

He talks about "watching the turbo gauge". Do we have that gauge in our 3rd gen Tundras?? I just have the basic gauge cluster with the little display screen and the rest are analog gauges on my SR5.

I do notice when I hit the accelerator pretty good, the oil pressure jumps up some. Maybe that's my gauge I should watch?

I'm all about wanting to make my new truck last as long as I can. I'm okay with being conscience of how much I'm pushing the engine too. This is the first turbo engine I've owned so trying to do what I can.

Unfortunately, you have to have the digital gauge cluster to get the boost gauge.

Just found this thread about this subject. I'll try the app recommended there.

Everyone says 50 year old trucks are cool but nobody really wants to daily drive a 50 year old truck…I don’t see a lot of trucks from the 70’s on the road today….plus the money you would save in gas would pay for a new engine anyways.
