    Hey All,

I have a 24 SR5 and noticed something yesterday that I’ve never noticed before with the A/C.

So, I had my radio turned all the way down to 0 and my A/C on full blast. When I switched between modes (defrost, feet, upper, etc…) & even between the (recirculating buttons) I’d hear a popping sound in the cab. Almost like when you’d pull an auxiliary cable from a speaker that’s still on. And it seems like the sound would come from all sides of the vehicle.
Anyone having this issue? Or is this not an issue but is normal?

    Thanks!

it might be one of the dampers opening/closing and it may be getting caught on something (burr or bad QA check on smoothness of the duct work) and popping free

I’m not a big car guy. And I hope this doesn’t sound silly but is that an easy fix?

Yes you take it to the dealership and if they can easily duplicate the sound you're hearing, they'll fix it or tell you its normal. If they tell you its normal have them pop you in the seat of a new one on the lot and perform the same function to hear the same sound to prove to you it is a normal noise. Hell that might be where you start is ask a guy on the sales floor if you can sit in new one and see if it makes the same noise you're hearing, then stop by the service center after doing your homework.

I don't hear anything when changing vent locations, so it doesn't sound normal to me. You're under warranty so use it.

Little off center but on the same subject being told that's normal. Not to long after picking up my new truck I noted that one of the cables on the tailgate was holding no tension at all while the other was tight. Had the service department look at it and was informed they were all like that. "Really"? Got hold of a salesman and we checked the other new trucks on the lot and they were Ok. So they had to eat their words of it being normal or their all like that. Teab has the perfect come back for the service department when they say that's normal.

    Hey Observer,

Good call. I went to the dealer and asked my service advisor who said it’s normal. then I checked it against a new one. The new capstone did the same thing. So guess I’m good.
Also, thanks to you I showed them my tailgates loose cable. I now have an appointment scheduled for them to look at that and to look at a loose window seal on my window

Also thank you teab. Turn your AC on high fan speed then cycle through the modes. Make sure the radio is off but once you cycle onto defrost, you should hear a pop

Just tried it on my drive this morning... radio off, cycled through all modes with fan on high and hit defrost and near silent transitions. Wonder is something changed on the 24's? Sounds like something did change if dealer could replicate the sound on another new one. Wonder if it was to improve air flow or something like that.

@Lunar Rock and @teab---I'm wondering -- from a different angle--if the Capstone that Lunar Rock checked also had a problem and it just confirmed the service tech's opinion rather than proving "it's Normal". I'd prefer to listen to 2 or 3 others before accepting their position that it's normal. Two data points doesn't make a solid confirmation to me. My 2024 1794 doesn't do it!

C&Wsinbad, you had the fan all the way up and cycled through the modes? Mine
Does it only when I hit the defrost in the cycle. Not the main defrost button

Out of curiosity I tried this today. Put fan on high then cycled through modes using mode switch. I can hear the blend doors closing with a small thump. I can hear this when switching between any of the selections, not just defrost. Definitely doesn't sound like a speaker being unplugged as described in the OP. I would say what I'm hearing is normal.

@Lunar * Rock --I reverified this morning, with the fan on high (all the way up), and cycled thru the mode settings. As DRP stated (above), I can hear the blend door moving in all positions--including defrost--but I get NO NOISE that sounds like the "pop" you described similar to an electronic transient over the speakers of the audio system. Again, I think your service tech was taking the easy way out and the Capstone you selected had a problem similar to yours. Statistically, those two points are inconclusive when compared with the responses you're getting here. I'd go back to the dealer.
