Just had my 2019 5.7 new toyota care done 2nd time . I looked at the paper work this time they noted 9 units of oil with oil filter. I checked my level after i got home with the engine hot and sitting 5 min the level was dead nuts on the top hole.

Possible, but the more likely explanation is they charged Toyota for 9 quarts and put the correct amount in. I don't think they have a way of charging for partial bottles so they just round up. Most people here say it's between 7.9 and 8.1 quarts of oil. As long as it's not low or overfilled you are good so at least they didn't screw that up.

When I change my oil and filter 8.5 qts puts it right at the top line.

Exactly 8 qts for me at top of line. Not sure how sensitive the dip stick is, maybe it wasn’t seated all the way? Maybe they spilled some? An extra quart seems a lot

They must have poured a quart in before putting the drain plug back in and felt they needed to charge you for it. 7.9 qts. (8.0 qts. to make it easy) is what is specified.

By golly, you are correct, just checked the manual. I have been shorting the truck by 1/2 quart over the past 4 oil/filter changes (2018 here).

What changed to increase the oil quantity requirements?

Have a '16 here, you think it would be better to put the 8.5 in mine? Mine takes 8 now as it is, but if these motors are the same....you know

4.6 is the same after 2011. before that the 4.6 was a old style engine w timing belt, the new 4.6 is basically a smaller 3urfe

It is odd because right after I read that I should have put 8.5 quarts in I checked the oil (about 500 miles since last oil/filter change) and the level was just an RCH below the top dimple. I have always used 8 quarts for O/F changes. It doesn't look like I have been under filling it. Go figure.
