Thank you for providing a great forum for new and existing tundra owners and enthusiasts.
I am in love with my tundra. It is a beautiful truck and I am hoping that the issue I’m dealing with currently can be rectified.

In short, I heard a very distinct, very consistent “clicking” noise coming from seemingly, the driver side, under the hood ONLY WHEN IN DRIVE…idling in neutral, reverse or park, no clicking…no warning lights, no limp mode, etc.
I brought the truck to the dealer and their “master technician” was able to duplicate the sound (as it happens all the time)
I’ll provide an update when I get one from the dealer. If you have any input, I’m all ears. I’ve included a video or link to the video on YouTube.

Just a shot in the dark, possibly a flex plate or torque converter issue. When it’s in neutral/park there is less load on it. But, that’s just a thought.

    Too many, but not enough....
You should already feel lucky that they actually acknowledged a problem and they didn't say they cannot duplicate

    Ricky,

I can’t recall where the post was but I read that someone else had a ticking noise and the dealer replaced there transmission.
That sucks that your going through this but it’s good that your dealership is helping you. I’m sure that there is an internal TSB report on this. I know that my dealer has a 22 Tundra that has an oil consumption problem and that truck came in with only 800 miles on it.

Im currently working with Toyota on a gas Guage issue. My truck keeps setting itself to Full!

Anyway hope your issue gets resolved soon.

2022 Tundra has no gas tank lock. Maybe some of your neighbors keep adding gasoline when you are away?

That's a pretty rhythmic sound, like a solenoid trying to engage but can't so it keeps trying every 3-5 seconds, weird...

I have not received any updates from the dealer, other than they're working with Toyota Engineering. Just out of curiosity, if it was this ^^ what would the remedy be?

If it is a solenoid then just change it out, if it’s getting the correct signal. At this point it’s all speculation. The 22 has so many solenoids, zippy di do das, whistle blowers, etc you have to wait for a Toyota engineer to figure it out. The master tech are out of their league with this truck.

Hopefully they sort all this out by 2024. I figured I'm just going to wait until then - F150 should get a mid cycle enhancement by then as well.

I see this all the time, toyota must have a ton of tundra engineers, or at least they need to, seems like they have a lot to figure out.

I thought I was in for the 2023 that would have most of this stuff worked out, but damn if there isnt always something popping up here.

guess well see when they actually find the truck I want anyway, it may take a year or two, lol.

    keep us updated

I don't know how many engineers they have but it sure does seem like the are all working overtime on this particular product launch. I wonder if they have had to pull in help from other departments

Unfortunately nothing is a sure bet anymore. Buddy at work has a Ram Rebel (I know it's a Ram but bear with me) that has had to have the head/infotainment unit replaced twice already and it's only a few years old. My local Toyota dealer had a 2 year old F150 with a dead head/infotainment unit. Ford had no solution for the issue at the time. Another guy I work with has a trail boss that needed a new starter at 20,000kms

Sad state of affairs accross the board

All brands of truck will need an extended warranty now.

Might as well just get whatever one is the nicest to drive or most capable. Toyota evidently falls short on both of those counts.

Taking mine tomorrow/Wednesday for the Safety Recalls. After 10 months, have the following additional concerns for them to look at

    1. Throttle Lag. When it's cold, it's a bear, no response pulling out and then it jumps. Pretty consistent. Second visit for this.
    2. Fuel Guage issue. Gotten used to routine occurrence of it resetting showing full. It's second nature to do the shutdown in drive, count to 10 and then start for it to adjust back to the correct level. Third visit for this.
    3. Both rear door Window moldings continues to warp and pull further away from window. Second visit on this.
    4. Driver side view mirror when closing has distinct scraping noise. Nothing has hit the mirror and it started when with the fall temperatures.
    5. Both front seats outside lower panel starting to develop cracks. Wife weighs 100lbs and only person riding passenger side. When I exit/enter, use the running board and hand grip avoiding bearing down on the panel. I do this normally from having a rebuilt leg and this is best way to enter without pain.
    6. Noticed this week, panel between rear door and window popped out 1/4 inch. Clearly out of line with large gap and not consistent with ride side panel.

The dealer is not too keen with listing the details of my visits. They list 27 multipoint inspections completed. I now provide them with the information and pictures.

Still enjoy the truck. Just need them to fix these issues. If not, been down the road before and negotiated a very nice package/upgrade with another Big Three Corp. Records and pictures for documentation with dates/times go a very long way.

    1. Throttle Lag. When it's cold, it's a bear, no response pulling out and then it jumps. Pretty consistent. Second visit for this.
Toyota Answer: Its Normal. Of course today it was 70 degrees and they test drove it after I drove 30 miles to drop off. I did get them to open a case report.
    2. Fuel Guage issue. Gotten used to routine occurrence of it resetting showing full. It's second nature to do the shutdown in drive, count to 10 and then start for it to adjust back to the correct level. Third visit for this.
Toyota Answer: Opened a case study to Toyota. Acted like this was first time hearing about this.
    3. Both rear door Window moldings continues to warp and pull further away from window. Second visit on this.
Toyota Answer: Replacing one while the other is not an issue. Part ordered. I told them, I will be patient and you will see this again at my next visit at 10K service
    4. Driver side view mirror when closing has distinct scraping noise. Nothing has hit the mirror and it started when with the fall temperatures.
Toyota Answer: None issue, ordered entire new mirror. Parts ordered
    5. Both front seats outside lower panel starting to develop cracks. Wife weighs 100lbs and only person riding passenger side. When I exit/enter, use the running board and hand grip avoiding bearing down on the panel. I do this normally from having a rebuilt leg and this is best way to enter without pain.
Toyota Answer: Normal wear and scratches. I had them open a Case report
    6. Noticed this week, panel between rear door and window popped out 1/4 inch. Clearly out of line with large gap and not consistent with ride side panel.
Toyota Answer: Normal install. My comment, this popped out in last month. I will be patient and provide pictures again at the 10K visit

The dealer is not too keen with listing the details of my visits. They list 27 multipoint inspections completed. I now provide them with the information and pictures.
Toyota again tried to list these quality concerns characterizing 27 point inspection. I held on this and had them rewrite the service order noting each concern and their comments.

The main reason for the visit was completing three safety recalls. All completed. Not sure why as my Tundra didn't have any of these issues.

It is disappointing for sure and not a good showing for the quality coming out of the US plant. It's a 12/7/21 build.

The US plant (San Antonio TX) is the only plant they produce Tundras at to my knowledge.

Also forgive me for being Canadian is that a Dec or July build date?

I wonder if that throttle lag is an intended function to let the engine warm up before you romp it. My f250 does the same thing until both engine and transmission temperatures are in the normal zone. It’s a feature in the case of my truck.

Hybrids have locking tanks. Part of how the system works. Sometimes it takes a second to equalize before opening when you press the button, other times it opens right up if truck has sat for a minute already.
