I just checked in at 8 AM for a scheduled 10K service, as well as the trans and e-brake recalls. The service department doesn't seem busy at all. They told me it will be 5 hours to complete the work. Their excuse was the trans and e-brake reprogramming can take up to 2 hours each.

Is this for real, or am I getting a line of BS?

That was about how long it took mine. I think they probably leave it sitting there for 1.5 hours

Thanks guys. I expected to be here 2 hours max. Talk about blowing up a day's schedule. Oh well, it is what it is.

I think mine was done in about 5, but I'm not sure I paid too much attention. I live close to the dealer so I drop it off once they're open and take the wife's Highlander until the end of the day. I'm usually pretty clear with them that I'm not in a rush. Can't remember the last time I tried waiting at the dealership.

I think you're right. I just wandered back to the service bay area. No one touched my truck for the 30 minutes I watched. I guess they could be doing the reprogramming, though, so I'll give them the benefit of doubt.

Unfortunately, I live 2 hours away from my dealership, so leaving my truck with them isn't very convenient. To their credit, they did offer me a loaner while I waited, but I have no where to go and nothing to do in this area. I guess I'll just kick back and watch the Masters golf tournament. Maybe take a nap.

At 8AM this morning, I took my truck in for a 10K service, as well as the trans and e-brake recalls. The 10K includes a tire rotation, which I specifically requested. 4 hours later they claimed the work was complete. Upon my inspection, the left front tire, that I had marked prior to the appointment, was still in the same location. When I complained, I was told all of the techs were at lunch, and it would be another hour before they could do the rotation. I said, "screw it, I'll do it myself" and I left.

Is there any honest service departments left?

    Thanks for letting me vent.

Marking the tire, that's a good idea. I'm only at 3k right now, but I'll remember to do that on my 10k.

I didn’t spend the money to just swap out stuff.
I don't recall letting you vent.

I jest. For my "5k", (technically 10k since I requested oil change), they replaced my front tires under the Pro alignment recall and the front tires were brand new... shouldn't they have been put on the rears? Whatever. Serious work, I want done by the dealer and for benefit of "service records" but little shit like that, I rather not let some monkey strip threads and I'll just do it myself. Pick your battles.

I've turned a lot of wrenches in my day. But at 62, I prefer not to wrestle with heavy truck tires anymore, especially when it's suppose to be included in the service. It's not even the work that bothers me the most, it's the fact they intentionally screwed me, and were unapologetic about it. They even tried to claim the techs inspected the tires and determined a rotation wasn't necessary. I felt like choking the phucker.

Did they charge you for a tire rotation?

If I was you I would write a letter to the dealership general manager describing how you were treated. I would also call Toyota to complain and if you get a survey rip their asses off.

No dealer wants Toyota crawling up their ass on bad CSI scores for service. The dealer GM probably isn’t aware that his service department is half assing it either.

The tire rotation is included in the free 10K service, which its basically a free oil change. They give lip service about a "multi-point inspection" too, but who knows whether, or not, that was actually done.

On the bright side, the oil does appear to be fresh and at the correct level. And the drain plug is tight. So there's that.

I put a small red dot on my oil filter, and I have cut a tiny "V" in my oil plug taking a pic before I take it to the dealer. I also always ask the service advisor if they are going to drain the oil pan and not suck the oil out. A lot of oil change places and dealers suck the oil out leaving a lot of oil in the pan. Sorry to be this way but I have no trust in anyone especially someone I do not know working as service people. I know there are a lot of good honest dealers and service people out there, but they have to prove this to me over time.

A tire rotation is pretty easy with a lift and tools, and the dealership damned sure has both. A pretty simple request really.

I'd be irritated too, especially since a new half ton truck is now $50,000. People can't get anything right anymore.

They told me that if I didn't run the 0-20 oil it would ruin the engine lol.

Same story here, not just with the Toyota dealer, but the Lexus dealer as well. These people can't hire competent techs and stand by their crappy service and the work they half-ass perform. I've recently been researching and buying parts for my own oil changes since they stripped all my skid plate screws at the Toyota dealer.

I always put a large dot on the inside of the rear rims with a yellow paint pen, especially on my wife's rig. It looks like something the factory would do, so they don't really notice that I don't trust them, which I don't.

I have used up all my services with them so I am happy to be on my own.
The techs don't know jack evidently and they gave me a ton of attitude about it.

I just went home and put in my oil of choice, I don't live in the cold so that oil doesn't make sense to me other than a fractional increase at best of MPG. Who cares about MPG if you bought a 5.7 tundra lol

I don't think they did half the things they said they did on their checklists, just checked boxes. You can't do all those items/checks in 30 minutes, at least properly.

I chalk my wife's Highlander tires before just to see which type of rotation they perform. (Front to back, back to front or switch up). When we bought it, it came with free oil change and tire rotations as well as lifetime batteries. (All as long as they perform the scheduled services). I don't have any problem with my dealership, I've known the service manager for 28+ years and he knows what kind of anal prick I can be but I never have to be! I always tip the tech and get phenomenal treatment. I know I'm lucky but I always recommend this dealership for service and all feedback is positive. One nice thing is when he says "it's going to be 4-5 hours for the programming..." He follows it up with " I'll have a loner of choice waiting for you". I have always rated them 5 * and they back it up. Very not common these days but they are out there!
