    Hi all,

I currently have a 2007 tundra with the 4.7 and 2 wheel drive. Engine and trans are prefect still.
But came across a 08 that had a blown up 5.7 engine but the overall condition of the truck body, frame and interior are in better condition.

My question is. Can I swap in my 4.7 into the other truck?
    Thanks

Not for the feint of heart. Are the two trucks otherwise identically equipped? Same cab config and drive type?

The 08' is a 4x4. The trans is still good.

The trans for the 4.7 is a 5 speed and the trans for the 5.7 is a 6 speed. Not compatible.

I suppose it’s possible, but you would have to swap over the entire engine and chassis harness, along with any and all ECU’s and sensors. No telling what what would happen when it comes time for emissions testing and DEQ is scratching their heads trying to make sense of the emission readings.

The 4.7 will not mate to the 5.7 transmission. You would have to gut the drivetrain, 4wd system included, and install your 2WD 4.7 drivetrain and all associated harnesses and computers. Second option, Sell your 2007 and use the proceeds to buy the 2008 and a donor 5.7 engine to replace the blown one.

Maybe the transmission can fit, by swapping bell housings, It will still be a lot of work.... In Cali you would have to go through CARB but since it was an option for the truck, it shouldn't be an issue. Matching things together will probably be a challenge. But if you don't need the truck long term there is room for trial and error.

How you gonna get the computers to talk to each other? ECM and TCM wouldn’t know what to do with each other.

Don't think it would be too hard... Splicing wires? I mean, swapping my 4speed for a 5speed transmission was the same plug with same color codes, only difference is Overdrive light flashes in 5th gear, both computers still talk to each other. 92 to a 97 5 year difference primitive electronics and they function well with each other. These are apples to oranges, but following wire diagrams shouldn't be too hard, theoretically...

I agree with the sell the 4.7 Tundra and buy a 5.7 model unless you really want an involved project

Keep the 07, buy the 08, and put a motor in it.
