Hi everybody I’m wondering who currently is running 5.29s on the tundra with 37s? I’ve found a multitude of threads saying people have em but no one really talks about how they perform real world other than “yeah bro they’re badass get em”
    So my questions are:
1.did you also install the auburn pro when doing 5.29s

    2. What kind of rpms should I be expecting in 6th gear doing about 70-75mph on the speedo( real world about 85)

3.been thinking about doing this regear with the auburn unit however powertrax is offering their posi unit(torsen style) by may 13th and I’m wondering if a torsen or clutch system would be more beneficial for off-road(want to be able to whip the ass end of my truck)

    4. People with the auburn and 5.29s can you throw donuts down on wet pavement? If so are you turning off all the nannies? This damn open diff doesn’t wanna let me have fun neither does the B.S. auto lsd.

    5. How has the gears helped with city driving? Anyone witnessing cooler transmission temps?

    6. Has anyone tried topping out their truck if so what’s the max speed you’ve gone with the gears and tires?

    7. Between motive gear and nitro who would you choose?

Thanks for any input! Also I’m hear in SoCal/inland empire area so if anyone has that setup and wouldn’t mind taking me for a spin I would love to see the real world driving characteristics. P.s. been talking to Kevin at nexgen off-road who works with motive and is saying the Powertrax would be a superior unit but hasn’t really given me any reasoning into why however I spoke to Alcantargear who said the auburn would most likely be the better unit since there will always be constant tension on the clutch style posi creating a more consistent limited slip action in dirt and when a tire is in the air.

Hm I just ordered Nitro 5.29 and Auburn for my 37's cause they're badass bro get em! But seriously I am also interested in better documentation of engine speed vs. true GPS road speed that would have helped with the decision, as well as proof in trans temps. I could care less about whipping donuts and top speed. My understanding is that any carrier is better than stock due to some pin walking out on older tundras and the Eaton elocker is cost prohibitive so I went with Auburn as the easy add on option when ordering. Might as well replace it since I'm in there.

I have 5.29’s with 35’s and badass bro, get em!

Sorry... I have had mine up to 110 with no problems and since I have not driven my truck in a month I do not recall the exact RPM range. I put in Harrop Elockers front and rear when I re-geared. I will post up numbers once I get her back on the road again. Mine is a 2018

I have nitro 5.29s and auburn with 295/70/18s (34.3x11.7), they are bad ass bro, get them!
I have put a little over 1000 miles since installing them. My RPMs were around 1850-1900 at 70mph (72 actual for me). With the gears my rpms are around 2200-2300 at 70.
Trans temps are about the same, maybe a degree higher, I have an Edge CTS2 display with all the temps up.
Engine load used to be 80%+ at 70mph, now it is 50-60% for the same drive.
The truck is noticeably quicker from a stop, driving normally, not punching it.
I have not tried to see what top speed is.
I have not turned off the nannies yet, but I have had the traction light come on a few times taking a turn fast on wet ground. I have fish tailed more in 2 months than 3 years.
My MPG was 13.4-13.6 on average. Since the gears my mpg dropped to 13.2.
I plan on installing 35s for sure (maybe 37s) once these tire wear out later this year. I also did the 5.29 over4.88 since we have a camper and had a 4000 mile road trip planned for next month, now postponed. I wanted to make sure I had plenty of power for pulling up hills. I have not towed since installing the gears.
I also have a DAP tune on the truck

Appreciate your response! I’m ovtuned and love it but I know the truck needs more ahah. I’m surprised transmission temperature went up or stayed the same in my mind with less load and more time in lockup the trans should be running cooler but apparently not great info!

Just took my dogs for a walk and my truck on the freeway for ya. I have 5.29s and 37” KM3s. These specs were at minimal throttle(not punching it). Hope that helps. I recalibrated my speedo to be correct with the hypertech speedo calibrator. Used two gps systems to make sure it was as accurate as possible and about 10 different runs since you have to tell the software what tires you have and the gears you have. Mine thinks it’s on 44s to be accurate. Had the wife take a pic at 70. Don’t mind the mpg average. I just got my truck back and had to reset it. I usually stay at around 10 city and 14-16 highway.

    70mph at 2000rpm
    80mph at 2500rpm
    90mph at 3000rpm CF9D6326-FE4E-48DA-92C8-B1A3FC90E6D5.jpg

Now we’re getting somewhere I appreciate it! I assume you weren’t cruising 90 for a while but how did it feel getting up to that speed I know you weren’t punching it but have seen some members post about them losing overtaking speed on the highway with gears. Thanks again really appreciate the concrete evidence from everybody posting here!

Getting up to speed feels effortless compared to my 35s on stock gears. Never had 37s on stock gears. I live in the Bay Area, we have lots of big hills to go up and the truck does it will little throttle. As for overtaking people in the truck when I actually get on it, it hauls ass and never have an issue passing people if I choose to. I tend to cruise cause these tires were not meant for speed and are not cheap. The tires are only rated for 100mph and I don’t like pushing it as if I were to lose traction at 100 with my heavy bitch I could easily kill several people by splitting a small car in two. Juice is not worth the squeeze and it’s not a race truck.

I hear you on that. I personally drive 65-70mph at most on the freeway. But when I get into the desert on empty two lanes I open the thing up. I’ve never really topped my truck out purely out of mechanical sympathy for the poor thing but I’d like to have the confidence in the back of my head that if I wanted to be a “race truck” I could ahahha

Does anyone have the FSM pages for front and rear carrier assemblies for 3rd gen? I have an 07-10 manual and assume it's the same otherwise? Looking to do a self install. I can certainly take a bunch of pictures along the way.

LSDs are pretty much useless when one wheel lifts off the ground, or comes close to it. It'll give you small bursts of power to the wheel on the ground, but it's highly unlikely it'll get you across/over whatever you're on. If you only go on dirt/gravel/compact-sand tracks, the LSD will probably be fine for the most part. It really comes down to what kind of off-roading you do, and if you would rather have performance on-road (LSD) or off-road (locker). The locker will cost about double, but give you way more capability off-road.

The trans temps could be because it has been 85-90 degrees on the past couple of times i have driven verse the 60-65 we had 2 months ago. I am only talking a degree or 2 difference, not very much and the trans gears are spinning more with the higher rpms

I was in contact with Harrop for almost a year before I got the opportunity to purchase. I heard they were looking at making an Elocker so kept asking. Then after many many E-mails one day I got an E-Mail asking if I was still interested. Absolutely so I purchased them and they sent them from Australia and I had them in like 2-3 days. Any way, I tried to get a group buy set up for my local club members (4,800 + members) and 3 days went by with no response and they always responded within 24 hours. They contacted me and said they are in a contract with a company in Ohio that is going to do “all” the distribution for them and because of that they cannot make any more sales. I guess I got lucky because I was in contact with them so much but the bottom line is with the fires they had and possibly the COVID crap they have had a huge delay getting them in the states. From what I understand they are still not available

I have 35’s and that’s as big as I want to go. Anyone experience 35’s with 4.88 or 5.29? Not sure what way to go. I thought 4.88 was there for 35’s and 5.29 was there for 37’s and it gets you back to where you need to be
