Having problems with my 4wd . Months ago it wouldn't engage so I took apart the top 4 wheel high actuator and as expected there was water inside and it had corrosion. Cleaned it all up tested the motor . Still worked resoldered it and put the gears back in and reinstalled. Fixed my problem and went into 4wd effortlessly. Fast forward to this past weekend I switched it in went in . Took it out in a bad spot turning uphill heard a werid pop sound coming back down and 4 wheel high light flashing and vsc off light on c1340 code . Try taking it back in and out of 4 high and can hear it humming . Limp it back home on back roads cruise didnt work . Get it back take actuator apart again little bit of rust clean it up put new grease, tested the motor still works so I reinstalled it and nothing changed . It first sounded like it was humming but nothing now took it off again retested motor still working and I'm at a loss. Does the truck think it's in 4 high ? It acts like it driving but I lifted all tires off the ground and front doesnt spin . Any input would be very much appreciated. Almost about to buy the new actuator assembly for $700 and install. Doesnt seem like the transfer case actuator is doing anything . I've verified that the rod isnt stuck . Checked fuses . Could it be the 4wd computer or front differential actuator ? How would I go about testing the plug to verify it is getting power when switched to 4 high ? Also I reversed the way the rod normally goes had it all the way in when I put assembly back and 4 high light and vsc went away in 2wd but if I tried to switch to 4 high it came back.

Rescued this truck from a pothead up north I'm not planning on going full monster, just to update a bit what the guys at Toyota masterfully created. Extended CV axes, Rancho 9600s, new needle bearing, Hewitt Technology secondary air pump bypass, timing chain, VVT screen filter, full towing package, all led custom-made lights and fog lights.
I have a similar problem with 2009, I bought it used and the previous owner told me that the 4WD would not engage because of a broken ABS speed sensor. I have the VSC OFF on and the 4HI/LO flashing. After installing the new ABS sensor the error disappeared but it would make a clunky noise after engaging on 4WD and moving the truck (but never while on 2WD) I would then put it back to 2WD and the truck noise would stop but it goes on limp mode. So far the only way to back to normal mode is by resetting the codes via the ODB2 adapter or disconnecting a battery cable, and disconnecting the ABS speed sensor.

As far as I can see the actuator works, it engages the 4WD, although it seems to have a hard time disengaging, and today for the first time my scanner gave me a code C1340 "Block Diff.Circuit Malfunction/47

I would very much appreciate it if you found the solution to your truck's problem.
