Hi all, new member here and a noob to 4wd's. We recently purchased a used 2013 Tundra 4wd and when I put it in 4hi it operates fine at speed but when I come to a full stop it feels like the emergency brake is on when I try to go forward and especially in reverse. I am scheduled for service at the local dealer in a week but figured I would give this forum a shot to see if anyone might have an idea what the issue is (or if it's entirely normal)?

    Thanks in advance

    Too many, but not enough....
hard to know exactly with your description but it is supposed to be a little harder to move from a stop with 4wd engaged because there is more of a tax on your power since it has to be distributed to the front as well. I have accidentally tried to move with the ebrake engaged and its very noticeable, if it actually feels like that, you may have an issue.

Are you turning the steering wheel when it feels like the emergency brake is on?

Are your tires all the same size? Also are they all about the same for wear? Kind of sounds like the 4×4 system is binding up, try it on a dirt road to see if it is still binding.

Tires are same size and seem to be wearing normally. I'll keep my eye out for a dirt road and see what how it feels.

I've checked and double checked to ensure that I wasn't driving with the parking brake on. I had rotors and pads done last week at the dealer and mentioned the issue to them and they said the 4wd looked fine, so for the time being, I am going with "rookie mistake".

you had them check the actual brake though? not just the pedal? i'm pretty sure my parking brake drags because it squeaks in reverse after i disengage it.

Maybe your brakes are sticking a bit.

If it was the parking brake it would do it regardless of 4wd. With that said I have no suggestion OP besides have someone with mechanical knowledge drive it. Mine feels no different accelerating/decelerating in 4wd. Unless the transfer case or front diff are doing some weird shit, it should act nearly the same in 2hi and 4hi.

I can't say with any certainty. The Parking brake light has stopped going on randomly so I assume that whatever activates the light was resolved when they did the brakes.
