    2014 Tundra 4.6 4WD SR. 111,000 miles.

I was traveling down an interstate recently and my dash lights up like it's Christmas. The 4LO AND 4HI flash. The abs and traction control stay on.

I took it to a box store where I could get a device to read the codes. No codes were found.

I then took it to a garage and the mechanic said it was throwing a CO205 code which is the front wheEl speed sensor. I went and got a new sensor from a box store.

I took the old sensor out but in doing so the old sensor split in half. I had to drill the remains out of the hole for the new one.

After I did all that, the dash board lights remained off for abut 20 feet and then they came back on again. Back to where I started.

Anyone else have experience with this problem? What is the solution? How much does it cost?

Try to unhook the battery for 15 min or so to reset the system. If it’s still on, go back and see if there is another code.

Gotta be honest, what do you mean sensor split in half and you had to drill it out? Trying to picture it but having a little bit of a tough time.

Any chance you left bits behind in the hub?

And the wiring itself to your ABS sensors are good, yes?

Yeah. You might end up chasing down the wrong thing. I’d check for a new code.

When you replaced it, you may have accidentally tore one of those thin wires

    Update,

I took it to my usual mechanic who's a good guy. He is the manager at a chain shop.

He said that when I drilled the old sensor out that I didn't drill far enough and that part of the old sensor was still in the hole.

We got a new hub and he explained to me that the new hubs that they order already have a new sensor pressed in.

Took it for a long drive afterwards and no blinking lights on the dash.

The code was correct (CO205) which isn't picked up by some scanners including my El cheapo scanner.

Cost of repair was just over $600 which I'm happy with. The truck is paid for which helps.

While I'm happy with the truck overall, there are a few things Toyota should consider:
    1. ABS & Traction control went off. Why turn off safety features when they could be critical to human life? Good thing the roads were dry up here and I wasn't driving on icy roads.
    2. A piece of plastic pressed into a metal hole should be redesigned so that a new sensor can be mounted by a homeowner in the likely event of failure by the sensor.

The truck has 111k miles on it. I like the looks of the truck.
Things I've had issues with in the past:
    1. When I first got the truck, it went into limp mode while going down the interstate. Covered under warranty. I overheard the mechanic over the phone saying the rods and valves were fine.....wonder what that was about.
    2. When it was really cold here (about 15° F) with the wind blowing a fine mist of snow the engine ran rough. When it warmed up the next day the issue cleared up and the check engine light went off.
    3. The motor that switches it from 4HI to 2HI somewhere after 40k miles doesn't work. I have to make a hard turn on grippy pavement to get it back to 2wd. This is my biggest irritation. I live at the end of a 1/2 dirt road that isn't maintained by plows. After a 16 hour double shift I sometimes need the 4wd and thank God it goes into 4wd fine.

I love the ground clearance of the truck especially after I added bilstien shocks at the 2nd setting. When I eventually buy new tires I might go with a slightly taller tire.

The rims are starting to rust but after 6 years I guess that's expected. With new rims the truck would look like a new truck.

My 2010 Tundra had the same problem yesterday. ABS and traction Control on solid and 4lo/4hi flashing, I checked this against the Tundra troubleshooting chart and it indicated a transfer case shift failure, however I had never tried to put it in 4 wheel drive. After reading lots of forums I decided that I needed to test the ABS speed sensors and wiring. Being that these are active sensors I could only test for voltage at the sensor to make sure I had power which I did. At that point I removed all the sensors to check them and found that the drivers side rear sensor was covered in Gear oil. I looked over the brakes and no oil so I must have caught the leak early. I disassembled the brake and axle assembly and found the axle seal was leaking so I replaced it. whoo hoo, the replaced seal fixed the problem. I'm impressed, the seal replacement was actually pretty easy, a well designed truck. Thinking back one of the symptoms of a faulty speed sensor was surging brakes, acting like the rotors were warped but I had just replaced the rotors!! Here is the troubleshooting chart.

Unfortunately I found this chart on this forum on another feed. I've searched the internet and can't find one for the gen 3. I suggest you take a copy of this chart to your local dealer and ask them if they have one. Most newer scanners are live feed so they may not have paper copies though.
