Newbie here so apologize if posting in wrong place thread etc.

Friend's 2006 Tundra grenaded itself at 175,000 miles had just had it in for oil change etc day before was running fine and while cruising down the freeway engine went - still waiting the actual autopsy but so far engine locked up and metal in oil pan. had done the regular maintenance and belt had been changed at 125,000 (before he purchased ) had been a 1 owner and well maintained

Looking at putting a lower mile salvage yard engine in it and running into will the later model 4.7 L 2007 on 4.7L work ok are all the 4.7VVTI engines the same or did they make changes when went to the second gen? - search the internet and AI answers says 2007 is when vvti started but know that is incorrect - so appreciate any help from anyone who has been down this path

    Imma keep it stock
Engine should be no problem. Issue will be different engine harness and ECM. You will need to source those from the same parts truck if available.
Do check the wiring diagrams found here: Ultimate TUNDRA Wiring Diagrams Collection | Toyota Tundra Forum
Also, the FGT Field Service Manual can be found here: Field Service Manual

EDIT: Lastly, you'll get more info from members if you post your question here: 1st Gen. Lunch Table - General Discussion | Toyota Tundra Forum
