I just bought a 2nd gen 07 Tundra from a neighbor who had the motor lock up on him 3 years ago and it has just been sitting in his driveway ever since.
Now it's in my driveway and I am prepared to put an engine in it, on with the questions
I Can i or would I want to install a 1st gen 4.7L they are available and cheaper
Can or would want to install a 2nd gen 5.7L
Who has a good used engine for sale, 2nd gen
I am located in KCMO and can use my company FEDEX Freight acct

Install the exact same thing that's in the truck now. That will give you a functional vehicle with some value for the cheapest outlay. How much you paid for the truck, and how cheaply you can accomplish the transplant will determine if you come out ahead on this project.

I would put in what you took out. Much less headache with wiring. Unless, you are really good at looking at diagram and figuring things out.

wrecking yards will probably be your best bet. The difference may be the wiring for the starter, as I do believe the 4.7 starter is tucked inside the intake manifold and the 5.7 sits under the exhaust manifold, so at the very least you will have to ensure they sit in the same place, otherwise you will have to swap the transmission as well. In reality its up to you how much you want to spend on it. If you want to keep it forever then it would be helpful to someone else that may be thinking the same thing....

I'm exploring my own engine swap on my 17 year old car as well... Insurance cost was my main reason for going to a smaller engine..
