Maybe this is a dumb question, idk? If you get into your hybrid tundra and drive slowly through the neighborhood only using the electric motor, will your cabin heater not blow warm air until the gas engine kicks in and eventually warms up to operating temperature? Also, if you want to warm up your gas engine (hybrid model) before you get on the road, I’m guessing you can do that, but how is that accomplished?

I really doubt if you'll get very far on just the battery if you try to drive around your neighborhood. You hit the accelerator at any decent rate/amount of movement, the gas engine will turn on. Even when I start it, and go get something, it starts the gas engine, and goes back/forth between battery/engine.

I really never notice any difference between it running and not running. Once engine reaches near operating temps it is easy to warm a cab of a vehicle. I have had mine for seven months now and really don't even pay much attention when it is running or not running. It starts and runs until it is close to operating temperature.

It seems like my truck will not run on 100% electric power unless the gas motor has already gotten up to a proper operating temperature. On really cold starts, the electric motor will assist via boost if needed, but the gas engine keeps running until it's warmed up.

The Hybrid system just adds more power/efficiency..The engine will always run when it’s cold. Other than the engine shutting down more often and more power you wont notice a difference.
