2014 Tundra 4x4 5.7L DC; Bilstein 6112s @ 1.9"; 35x12.50 Nitto Ridge Grapplers on 20x9 wheels with +25 backspacing; DV8 front & rear bumpers, Engo 12k winch (SOLD) 2005 Tundra RC 4.7 4x4 w/3" spacer, addicted offroad tube winch bumper w/9k Engo, homemade sliders, skid row skid plate, 285/75r16 Cooper AT3, Detroit trutrac in rear.
I know, I'm insane. Now that we established that, I have a reg cab 05 4x4 V8 Tundra that is strictly a toy. I have moved away from mud and have been getting into more like rock crawling (Tx; more like steep hills, not Moab stuff). The underbelly is completely armored up from front to back with skid row skid plates. Front bumper is a high clearance addicted off-road bumper. I just ordered rock sliders and a high clearance rear bumper that requires the rear quarter panels to be cut up to bumper level. I also currently have a 3-in toytec lift with 285/75r16s. The rear has a Detroit trutrac. I am not opposed to regearing to either 4.88 or even 5.13 if available. I am willing to cut ANY amount of sheet metal needed. I have a welder, sawzall, and 4 and 1/2 in grinder with cutting wheels. My initial thought was to go in and figure out where the structural support is for the fenders and tack weld some small rebar to hire sections of the fender to keep structural support, then hack out a large section on the lower portion with the cutting wheels/sawzall. I have no problem cutting away even 50% of the fender if need be. Has anyone attempted this and what are your thoughts? Also before anybody says it, I know that the CV shafts in the front will not handle up to 37s or 40s if I get heavy on the throttle. I am very easy on the throttle and rarely use more than about 30% throttle while climbing. I let four low (gearing) do all the work. If I end up breaking the front CV shafts repeatedly and or the differential, this will be a perfect excuse to do a solid axle swap, so either way it's a win-win. So let's please focus on constructive criticism on how much needs to be chopped to get at least 37s on here, and possibly 40s.

37s max. 40s will end up with broken shit 90% of the time. The suspension and drivetrain are the same as 1st gen tacos. Their absolute max is 37s and still useable

You will need to tub the firewall aggressively

I would go to 5.29s or dual cases (or both). 40s are a huge step up over 37s, where as 37s aren't much bigger than 35s. 40s are the way to party, but realistically just fitting those will be a nightmare even with a SAS, let alone building it so it will live.

A jig saw will work a LOT better than a sawzall for cutting fenders. Also, I think sheet steel will work far better than rebar if reinforcement is required.

If you’re going big or going home mount up a d44 ttb. Pretty sure you can find 6lug hubs and matching ratios. You talking leafs or arms out back?

sounds like you know what your in for, as opposed to many toy builders. So I would get a diff drop (cheap and easy) just to save a little hassle later then GO BIG OR GO HOME! 40's if you are commited to the costs/risks and understand parts availability for first gens is on the decline. Even 37's seem absurd to me so YOLO!

I know this is an old thread but, I was wondering if it ended up going anywhere. Is @Spl82 even still around?

Maybe he got rid of it and decided to find something more 37" or 40" friendly.

This was my exact thought. Just felt like if I said it it could come off like an 'I told you so' butthole-ish comment because I tend to be the one crushing the dreams of ppl wanting 35s and a 3"-6" body lift.
