Is anyone running a 35x12.50 tire in stock location with a Coachbuilder +3 shackle? (Not sure if thickness of shackle changes throughout the shackle options)

I already have a 35x12.50 stuffed under there with OME shackles and probably have 1.5” clearance on each side from the shackle bolts. (I did remove the factory guide tabs already) I’m concerned the CB shackles will be touching the tire or the tire won’t fit at all due to the CB’s thickness.

Pics would be appreciated if you’re running this set up.

    Thanks!

Update: Spoke with David he advised there’s roughly an 1/8” of deflection and the spare will still fit fine. Also put the bolt ends towards the truck and not tire.

pics would still be cool if anyone has one!

    Not enough....
I specifically went with the Toytec shackle for this reason. I know everybody loves the CB shackles, and I know they are stout, but so are the 3/8" thick solid steel Toytec ones. They even have the center brace in there like the CB shackle. And there is a lot more clearance for the spare. I have a "skinny 35", 285/75R18, stuffed up there with plenty of room to spare. Both are a substantial improvement of the OEM unit, but I preferred the slimmer design, and lower price. Sorry I don't have any pictures at the moment but I can grab some this evening.

I like Toytec's shackle and I know lots of peeps run them. I just lean toward CB for that extra 0.25" lol. A picture would be great! Thanks man!

Nice, how much space would you estimate in between tire and shackle bolts? Also is that a 35x12.50?

Actually a 295/70/18 STT PRO 34.8x 11.5 got that size so I could use stock spare rim. About 3/4 " if I lift it real slow .On truck are 35/12.5/20 , and most 35's really only measure about 34.5 - 34.8.

Yeah my 35x12.50 is actually 34.5"
I figure I could also deflate the tire to give me more room between the shackle. Not a big deal since I carry a compressor.

I wouldn't worry about it , just raise it slow and line it up , tighten up and check it every now and then. Almost forgot did you cut out the brackets already, that lined up the original spare?

Just a question , why are you adding 3" shackles if you already have after market leaf springs?

Because I carry a lot of gear and belongings on off road trips. I actually sit level right now with the aftermarket leafs and aftermarket shocks/springs up front. I lost my rake completely when I lifted my truck with the shocks and springs so I'm trying to gain some of that back to compensate for my weighted down rear on trips so my rear won't be sitting 1-2" lower while off roading. Coachbuilder's "+3" shackles actually only give 1.75" of lift so essentially I'll have 1.75" of rake when it's all said and done...actually closer to 2.25" cause I'm adding a leaf to the dakar leaf pack.

Do you have a fifth rim or do you plan on using the OEM spare rim? Does the exhaust need to be dumped?

I want to add a full sized spare under as well. Preferably one with the same Method rim so I can switch out the spare during tire changes and keep the spare from retiring due to age. Not sure how to do that without that bracket beating up the rim though.

Haha I understand. I actually only set mine to 1" of lift with my Dobinsons leaf pack to keep some rake too. It is a super beefy shackle. I snagged this picture when I was leaving work. I was in my nice clothes though so sorry I didn't climb under the truck :D I can always get more pics and maybe a measurement for you tomorrow.

The first picture is when I received them, just so you get the idea of what they look like in real life.

i bought a full size spare wheel cause the price was right. Exhaust doesnt need to be dumped, but i might cut it at the last hanger for better clearance off road. I cut the tabs on the tire pulley (part that actually holds the wheel and put some adhesive foam on it to prevent marring up the wheel. Also put some foam tape up on the cross members where the spare’s sidewall hugs against. Hate the marks it leaves on spare tires. We’ll see if it worked

It's a 285/75R18. I have big meaty Maxxis RAZR M/Ts, but the spare was just random Yokohama A/T I picked up used. I did cut out the tire alignment pieces as well, which I believe I read you already did too.

You could flatten your springs with the longer shackles unless you add height to the bump stops. You lose articulation with Sumo springs. Check out Roadmaster active susp. HD kit.

i’ve heard this, but David Ekstrom at Coachbuilder advised me that new bumps wouldn’t be needed for his shackles. @Coachbuilder1
Toytec’s 1.5” lift shackles are my other choice

I'd like to know how the spring can be forced down beyond its design limit and not become compromised. I have seen many members here with shackle lifts and flattened springs. Guess maybe not everyone loads up the truck to the bumps. I wish you luck!

Most springs flatten over time, from over loading regularly, not from reversing the arch, which would take an unreal amount of weight, unless you are heavy offroader, or overload bed and tongue weight consistently. Don't oversize bump stops just keep springs from traveling beyond a certain arch? And make it hit hard on frame when bottoming , unless you add leafs to compensate for x-tra weight,in bed and towing tongue weight , and driving conditions (offroading), they will eventually sag to a point, the bumps just hit at sudden heavy impact to save shocks and springs if it happens regularly. As far as shackles they can add a x-tra amount of travel in the spring, and add truck height ,and smooth the ride, so with longer shackles gives x-tra travel on one end of spring and could cause frame to bottom easier on stock springs. Spring will travel back and down where shackle is mounted. So agree with taller bumps. Sorry for the essay, got carried away. Get the bumps it'll save shocks as well from bottoming out.

I've been running Sumo springs for a couple of years. Haven't had a problem with articulation. The rear sway bar is what kills the articulation.
