Hi All. Wondering if anyone uses 4x4 a fair bit, and how it wears over time on these trucks. I have normally used mine only as absolutely needed on other trucks to avoid wear and costly repairs.

The manual says to engage it every so often.

I’m sure it wears as designed.

also, what ‘wear’ are you referring to? Anything specific? Transfer case, transmission, front/ rear diff, etc

Just the typical components that wear as you use 4x4 a lot over time.

Aren't the mechanical bits pretty much the same as the Land Cruiser (which is full time 4WD)?

I wouldn’t worry about it. I use mine every chance I get. Not that many xtra parts turning in 4x4. It’s better to use 4wheel drive a lot than not use it at all. Of course it needs to be used in low traction conditions.

Some people run their 4x4 all winter here in Canada. This can lead to significant wear and repairs.

Tundra's transfer case is very stout, the chain it's used in it is easily 1.5x the width of comparable 1/2 ton trucks, and keep in mind we don't use clutch so it won't overheat, the biggest problem is probably the actuators get rusty and need a rebuild, our differentials are massive, so use them away and just keep up with the maintenance!
