My parents just recently got a trailer RV and are looking to get a back up camera for it when pulling it with their '23 Tundra. Is there a way to hook up a camera so it can be used on their existing display? Or do they have to get a separate display for that camera?

If they can integrate it for their existing screen, what camera would you recommend and is there a video or any kind of literature that would help us with setting it up?

    Alot of them
Most of the RV cams have their own display. Depending on what they want to spend, you can get a descent camera and display setup for $120 or so from Amazon, or you can go the more expensive route like the Furrion, but very expensive. I have a Yakry. Search Yakry wireless backup camera on Amazon. It's the one that is $139.00. I use it while driving to see where cars are before changing lanes since I don't have tow mirrors.

Toyota has one called the WCS, but it’s expensive and I’m not sure how good it is. The catch is that it only works if the truck has the Panoramic View Monitor.

Tadi Brothers is a good company that has a good selection of cams/monitors. They sell PVM cam systems for commercial trucks, fork lifts, etc. as well as to RVers. Their 360 view stuff is pretty cool.

I just bought a basic system from them with three cameras. They have a monitor that clips on to the rear view mirror, and I liked that option, but it looked like the tabs that hold it in place would clamp down on some of the buttons on the bottom of the stock mirror. So I just got a separate monitor

Even bigger catch, your truck has to have the 3 Shark fin antenna from the factory. The WCS will not work on any other truck even if it has PVM (Panoramic View Monitor)
Huge disappointment for me when i found that out!

Yeah, dang! That sucks! The triple fin antenna, that’s something I didn’t know about. I ended up getting a fully loaded SR5, so it’s close to a Limited but without the PVM, and it has the tow mirrors and air suspension. It’s nice but not super nice, which I’m ok with. Now I’ve been looking at camera systems and it kind of blew my mind that there’s an aftermarket PVM system out there for a whole trailer.

I’m using a halo bt7. No lag, very good video. Been great. Just waiting on my bulletproof mount for it.

It was super easy to set up. Came with adaptors for Furrion ready campers.

I always have someone else with me so I just use iphones and facetime. Get a cheap phone holder and mount it to the back of your RV somewhere (ladder, spare, etc). Stick your travel partners phone on the holder. Face time each other and put your phone where you can see it. Sometimes I just get my wife to stand back in a strategic location holding her phone towards whatever I am worried about and watch what I am doing via my phone. Cheap and easy and it works.

I like your thinking! But don’t you need cell service to make that work?

They have magnate/solar cameras that have batteries for the back and connect to a phone. I also need cameras on the side though. Wife won’t buy an Apple phone either.

Sucks that the Toyota part does not work on earlier models. Seems very cheap at 70 bucks?

    Lots of stuff!
We got a Voyager with our trailer and used it a couple of times. The resolution wasn't very good and so we stopped using it and just use the second person method.

It pulls power from the trailer running lights and uses a wireless connection to the cab with a rather large screen.

I tried one of my Gopro's in the back window and it paired well with my phone in the cab. Much better resolution.

The challenge with trusting a camera is that you can still hit something outside of the field of vision. I have seen some pics of trailers hitting roofline gutters and tree branches.

I did see one setup that had side cameras and additional cameras for the rear that captured every angle. It was a lot of tech and had its own screen.

I got Haloview on the sides and rear. They do a great job and wired up nice and easy.

What does the screen look like? Do you see all the cameras at the same time in a split screen?

You can program it to what you like. It has a handful of different views. So I programmed mine to show the top half as the rear of the rig and the bottom half split into two screens to see either side. You can do three split screens vertical, or really any combo. It's not that hard to get it dialed in right too. Reversing images, rotating, etc.

    My model is the BT7.
