First of all, I’m wanting to disassemble and lube the sealed slip splines on my rear driveshaft, as I’ve been getting a bump from the rear when coming to a stop or just starting off.

I’ll be replacing the boot and clamps at that time, and since the driveshafts in our 2nd / 3rd gen Tundras are built by Spicer / Dana Corp, there is a handy tool I’ll share to identify individual parts, rather than replace a whole driveshaft assembly as a dealer will suggest.

I’ll show you how it works. Here’s the sticker on my front (4wd) driveshaft.

The top number is the Toyota P/N, we don’t want that. We want the Spicer P/N right below the bar code. 5006037-410M.

    Now using this link:
    https://www.expert.dana.com/expertforms/Driveshaft_BillofMaterial.aspx

Enter the Spicer part number, leaving off the hypen and last digits that indicate tube length as it directs you to.

Click on the “Parts List” button, you’ll get a list of all the Spicer part numbers used in building your driveshaft.

Any reputable driveline shop should be able to source the genuine Spicer parts at a much better price than if it came in a Toyota box.

With that said, can anyone post pictures of their REAR driveshaft sticker from a 5.7L Tundra? My sticker has fallen off, I can see the spot where it was just in front of the rear diff.

I had to peel some protective coating off of it. There is no sticker on the forward two piece driveshaft. The black one. I noticed a little slip bump taking off and coming to a stop. I was tempted to use a needle on my grease gun to penetrate the slip joint boot. Then sealing that small pinhole with some RTV.

Thanks Sean! Just FYI, that part number tag is for the whole, 2pc assembly from T-case to diff.

I’ll post pics when I do mine to show why, but trying to grease with a needle through the boot won’t be very effective. We service the larger versions of these on the commercial trucks fairly often at work.

Hmm that’s too bad. But if you do a little write up on the procedure of how to grease and replace the boot that would be cool. I’m sure quite a few would benefit.

Hmm, so for the part number you listed, the entire number including the “-3” must be entered. This breaks down the assembly into front (5012507-676M) and rear (5012508-716M); search those numbers with the hyphens and last 4 digits left off.

BTW, the boot kit for your rear shaft is Spicer P/N 5009494 and includes both clamps.

I’m going to measure mine to make sure the 3.425 dia. X 5.512 long 13 rib boot matches up.

I guess before I would attempt this I should hit up the dealer. I have 10 year 100k warranty. Although I'm sure they either won’t feel it or tell me it’s a wear item.
