My first Yota. Living the truck so far outside of a few small things. Have about 2100 miles so far and did first oil change at 875.

I notice when I go out at night (I'm in Colorado) and the truck sits outside for a few hours, when I crank her up she sounds rough (25-30 degrees). Almost has a Diesel sound to it while warming up.

Guessing this isn't too uncommon based on what I've read thus far. Once it warms up sounds fine.

Can anyone speak if their truck does something similar.

I wouldn’t say mine knocks but, overall it doesn’t like it below 40degrees. Honestly most ICE I have had do not prefer temps below 40. They seem run slightly on the rougher side the colder they get till at operating temp. My wife mazada 3 sounds like it’s going to let loose at about 25 degrees out.

The engine starts in direct injection mode which is rougher and noisier than port injection mode. The colder the longer before it switches over. Once rolling the ecu swaps depending on need.

Mine is loud at colder temps as well. I think it’s normal for anything really. My 5.7 was louder in cold temps too. I’ve started both in as cold as -40 C with no issues. Below -15 C I use the block heater plug in.
