I’m looking to buy a new Limited. The MSRP shows $66,000, the dealer has offered me $60k. I just wanted some opinions from other buyers. Should I go with it or try to negotiate down?

Is that out the door or are they going to hit you with another chunk of fees and paper crap to jack the price back up?

sorry that’s sale price. Not including taxes, tag and they included a $999 “pre delivery service charge” which I’m going to see if I can get them to remove. So right now $63,392 out the door.

I'd go for more than 10% off. Try to get it to 60 out the door. Not saying they will, but I'd deff try. Speak to a few dealers too if you have the option, while Tundra has lower inventory than other brands right now, they still seem to be willing to deal a little at most places.

For clarification, OTD never includes taxes because that varies so widely from area to area, but it does include all the fees from the dealership. It makes it easier to compare pricing across the board.

If I am understanding correctly then, you are at $60,999 OTD because of that service charge?

That's not necessarily true. If you are clear up front that you mean $60k OTD including taxes, you can get it done. In fact, most dealers I've dealt with in Texas assume OTD includes taxes, most dealers in OK do not. I learned that the hard way, almost cost me a very awkward drive home from Oklahoma City one time but the dealer caved when I started backing out of my parking spot.

I mean for sharing pricing online. If people posted what they paid for a truck without leaving off the taxes then the info they posted is only good for the area they are in. For it to be of value elsewhere the taxes have to be excluded.

Every dealer tries to screw you. If they think they can get away they'll alter anything for a buck.

Got it. In that case out the door would be like 61,400

This will depend a lot on where you are, supply, etc.... I picked up my non-hybrid limited for ~$8k off of MSRP (incl. $3000 Toyota customer cash) before any negotiating. I went a few hundred further down with out any question from the dealer

The other variable than taxes where you live is tack ons regional and dealer ones. SET for example usually tacks on several thousand in baubles. Then some dealers get very tacky as well.

Is the 66k the factory MSRP pre regional/dealer tack ons or the tack on sticker? Dealer tack ons are almost pure profit so you can negotiate them aggressively at a wanting to make a sale shop.

Tack on stickers make comparisons tough. Hard to compare a straight sticker to a tack on sticker. Running boards, window tint, etc if they are what you want maybe a better value than a straight truck deal. But it's apples and oranges

For me in 22 my SET truck had tack ons a plenty. I went line by line with the salesman negotiating each one. Took an hour. I ended up paying $800 for a tint I could have got for $500 for example. But at end of the day it's a two sided negotiation so if your goal is to totally vanquish the other party you may win the battle but lose the truck you want

Know what you want to spend, and be willing to walk away. The art of the deal. If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. Don’t cave in over your lust for a new vehicle. They have a liability on their hands and need to get rid of it. You have the money, you don’t need to get rid of your money. They want your money. Make em earn it.
