So, I have had trucks all my life and always bought new every 2-3 years for my business, which I take very seriously. I can never show up or even run late and need dependability, so I did my research and at the time, (Nov 2023) I visited a dealership in Selinsgrove PA. and fell in love with the showroom floor 1794 Edition - Lunar Rock, Tundra. So much I had the Ceramic Protective coating applied and purchased an extended warranty.
I went to pass a semi and almost got around him and the motor rattled some and being a former mechanic, I shut it down. Started to diagnose what I could, and it sounded like it was coming from the bottom end.....Not good.
Started with my research and found out all the bad news going on with all the 22-23 models.
The oil passage metal shavings that were missed, overlooked and not flushed properly during the manufacturing stage. 102,000 of them. Toyota stated they will change out the entire engine at no cost to the owner with what they refer to as a "Partial Block". Just pop it in and hook up your lines.
So, this is where my argument begins and need some assistance or advise on how to handle or who to contact....
The Toyota Dealership in Canandaigua, West Herrs, has advised me that they will send an oil sample and findings to Toyota to see how they will handle it. The dealership then advised me that a "Short Block" will be changed out and then the engine will be put back together using my original heads, cam, turbos and so forth.
Now every mechanic I've talked to has said the same thing....
"Do not allow them to do this". Any debris or metal that made it through the crank bearings may end up somewhere else in the engine and if parts are reused as like my case, they may make it back into some critical areas or just the idea of their presence will keep me unsatisfied.
I believe Toyota needs to step up to the plate and cover the 24s as well as the plan with the 22-23's or any vehicle that has the V35A short block.
Toyota is using a loophole excuse that states that if it is under the recall, replace with a Partial Block, if it is not then a short block will be sent.
Please help me if you can and I'll keep all of posted as to the outcome.
    Keith

Has your engine failure been diagnosed, and confirmed it's the main bearing failure from debris?

No way would I accept that if it's same failure as the recall

    Khduby,
I bought my 2024 Limited in November 2023 like you. An August 2023 build date.
I dreaded the fact that this failure has creeped into the 2024.
A couple questions, if you don’t mind:
    Build date?
    How many miles on it?
    Is it a hybrid?
When did you do first oil change (not that it would helped)?

Make sure you register this with the NHTSA:
    https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls
Perhaps that will help with your complaint to Toyota.
I too would not except a short block fix. Also try for a buy back. If those previous trucks were Toyotas then make sure you let them know you’re a loyal Toyota customer and they need to step up.

Also, post in the failed 3.5 I-Force engine thread pinned in this forum.
    Best of luck!

so your truck is under warranty, and your repair is covered. I don’t quite understand another thread on an engine when there is already a boatload of them. Or what you are seeking here

He’s saying that there are a ton of threads about this all over this forum, you joined today, didn’t search and read what was already here, and then started another thread asking questions that have already been answered ad nauseum.

I've been in your situation, it SUCKS.

My 2024 built 11/23 blew in Spring. This was before the recall with the entire engine assembly and it was rebuilt with a new short block.

I argued against the rebuild. I tried for a buyback. My experience dealing with Toyota was they couldn't care less. In fact, when i asked for buyback, the dealer doing my repair said Toyota pressured them to get it done in 30 days to avoid the buyback. Corporate was no help in every step of the process - from getting a rental, to providing a timeline and to attempting a buyback.

They pretty much said "We're legally required to fix a manufacturing defect. We did that by shipping the short block. That's all we'll do".

I wish you better luck than me. I tried to trade in my truck several times since the rebuild, but the short block rebuild is on the CarFax and the value is tanked. At this point, I'm just hoping they expand the recalls to the 2024s and I get an entire new engine.

It’s a crappy situation and a new short block isn’t an acceptable remedy. You are far from the first person to have had a 2024 grenade. The first 2025 I know of (VIN number posted over on Facebook) just ate a bearing. IMO, it’s extremely unlikely that this issue, which has been happening since 2018, is the result of manufacturing debris. Toyota said the manufacturing process was cleaned up in early 2023 but here you are, along with many others, long past the build date when the “fix” was implemented having the same issue with the #1 and #3 bearing.

You should also ask what the warranty extension is on a short block or a long block replacement. Rumor is it’s up to 12 months / 12K miles past the powertrain warranty (depending if your truck is still under warranty) from the date of your repair. But since you purchased an extended warranty, you might have some extra peace of mind at least. You could always ask West Herr for a trade in number as it sits and get something new now since you trace every 2-3 years anyway. Trading now might save you some hassles. Good luck!

After my meeting with the "Toyota Field Engineer" and "Service Manager", Toyota has made the decision that it only qualifies for the short block version for its VIN # does not show this truck being part of the recall, so with this, West Herr's Toyota has made me some options that seem fair and gave me a pill less difficult to swallow. One of the most important being, a "Maintenance Program" designed to check, change and analyze all future oil changes and inspect and check the used oil for contaminates and metal on the spot. I believe at no charge for 1 year. I'll know more later when I pick up the truck.
For the resell value tanking, they have also promised a sort of certificate that I may present to any of their dealerships after the negotiations of a new truck and they will deduct that amount from the bottom line. I do not know the amount yet, but I will relay to you if they allow.
I believe the dealerships are locked into what it is they can and can't do with Toyota which is sad because it could affect them just as much or worse than the mighty manufacturer themselves.
Look, I get it, I do not want to be one of those guys, but you need to fight and sometimes hard, for the reasons you know and believe in, and when this recall hits the 24's and it will, I'll see where my mileage is at the time and go from there.

Sad, but seems like you tried your best.

I won't be surprised if 2024s will get on the recall list within the next year or sooner

Apparently, some 2023's aren't on the recall list. My 23 Platinum isn't. I checked with dealer when I had it in for service, he checked it for recalls and said my wasn't on the list.

    Factory installed self-destruct device :D
    +1.

And I would add to the above: How many miles on it at delivery? How many miles on it when the failure occurred?
