PROBLEM SOLVED - Garage door opener backup battery.

..when parked inside the garage. I park my truck in my attached garage, fob is inside the house. Vehicle is parked with driver’s side window down and side view mirror folded back, doors unlocked as I am in and out of it a lot moving gear depending on what I just came from and what I’m doing tomorrow. The beep did not start until last week, I’ve had the truck 3 months, and it has been parked in the same configuration every day since I brought it home. The beep sounds like it is coming from somewhere in the engine compartment. It is a different beep than every other beep on it. It is a slightly lower tone and a millisecond longer than other beeps, like the backup sensors, seatbelt dinger, etc. It also does not emanate from inside the cab like the others. Sometimes it will beep, and minute or so beep again. Sometimes it will beep and won’t do it again for a few minutes. Sometimes it will beep, then the next one might be one, two, three, 10 minutes, or 2 hours later. I was in the garage most of the day today and it did not beep for the first time until around 4pm. It beeped again about 5 minutes later, then again an hour or so later, and I haven’t heard it for an hour and half now. On a day I am in the garage or kitchen where I can still hear it, it may only beep 3 times in a day, there was a day last week where it beeped very intermittently, about 8 times. Some days I don’t hear it beep at all.

I checked the oil, coolant, and washer fluid, air pressure is good. I started it just to make sure there was nothing showing on the dash board, all good. App doesn’t show anything either. Can’t find anything relevant in the owner’s manual. I figured I’d asked the dealership about it when I get my first oil change, but they didn’t know about the engine noise in the sound system and didn’t know why my seat wouldn’t remember the memory setting (I’ve since remedied both of those thanks to you guys).

It seems to be a very random, unpredictable, and unreproducible occurrence.

I thought it could be because the window was down, but sometimes it won’t beep for 24 hours after I’ve parked, so that doesn’t make any sense.

Any suggestions? In the meantime, I’ll try putting the window up before I get out of it and see what happens.

    Thanks all.

Are you absolutely sure it isn’t the key fob locking the door?

Yes, because the doors are not locking or unlocking when it happens, it’s a different beep, and the fob is in the kitchen, on the counter, with no one around it so there’s no way a button could be pressed, accidentally or otherwise. I’ll see if I can record the beep, it’s different than all of the others. Slightly lower tone, not as urgent sounding, a little quieter than the lock/unlock beep. It’s very polite, like a beep that is making a suggestion rather than a demand, if that makes any sense.

Do you have any prankster friends or family that would find it amusing to put one of those random beeping prank circuit boards in your truck?

When I left my last job, my coworker thought it would be a riot to leave one in my Sequoia. Took a few weeks to realize what was happening and to find it.

I have heard a really fast beep under the hood near the ABS system. It kinda sounds like a cricket. Pop your hood and check there. I just came to the conclusion that the abs system is doing some sort of calibration when I turn it off.

This is just 1 beep, slightly longer in duration than what you hear when you think “beep”, but just by one or two tenths of a second. It’s much louder than a cricket too and only does it once, whenever it decides to do it.

I was just under it crawling around, looking for a potential joke beep circuit board as suggested by @Wtundra2023, I could see my brother doing that, and I heard the beep, but it definitely was not coming from underneath the truck. Will continue to look around the top of the engine compartment.

I’m also now exploring the possibility that the garage door opener that is directly above the truck has a low battery as I noticed is has “battery backup” boldly displayed on the front and the back. Opener manual says it will beep every 30 seconds if the battery is low, which it definitely is NOT doing, but I’m ruling $hit out so I may as well check it.

Did the dealer install something? I thought I read here somewhere that some dealers install tracking devices. Seems odd that a tracking device would announce itself with beeps but you never know.....

Hahahahah, my garage door was randomly beeping from the battery backup battery being low. I changed the battery like a year ago, and the beeping went away. I too didn't know where the beep was coming from.

I read about that too. I haven’t done a deep dive under the dash yet. That’s on my list.

Thanks everyone for your input, the journey continues.

How about if you disconnect the battery for 10-15 minutes and maybe whatever electronics in there that's not happy may get reset?

Mystery solved, it’s the backup battery for the garage door opener motor. Turns out there is a little red LED that comes on too when the battery is low, but the lights are motion activated, so whenever I go out there, the lights come on and overpower the LED. It finally started beeping every 30 seconds like the manual said it would, which made it much easier to pinpoint. SO glad I don’t have a gremlin.
