I have had several problems with this truck. There was loud metallic clank when started. The dealer installed a software update and it worked okay for awhile. When I was driving 25MPH and came to slow stop there was an extremely loud gear grinding noise and it shoved my truck forward. I was in 2WD mode and driving very normal. I thought I was rear ended but no one was around. Now I am experiencing a new sound that happens intermittently. It sounds like 2 pieces of metal slapping each other. The dealer could not duplicate it. I have a recording of the sound but that was not enough for them and Toyota Corporate to do anything about it. I have made a formal complaint with Toyota but there are impossible to work with. They said unless a Toyota service advisor and myself are present they will not do anything about it. We have had 3 Toyotas before but this one I can tell is going to be a big problem down the road. Toyota Corporate is terrible to work with. The only thing they do is avoid taking any responsibility and dump it back on me. I also had the driver's side seat, plastic piece crack. I weight 225 lbs and the seat should be able to support that. I have the metallic clank attached. I am wondering if anyone is experiencing this problem. This is not the Toyota of the past.

Welcome from the Great White North.

Sorry to hear about your issues with the new Tundra. I am sure someone will chime in on the noise problem but as for the cracking drivers seat this is a known issue if it's in the same area as others have reported. Your dealership should replace that under warranty.

I have the same clank noise on start up as well. It’s not every time I start the truck. 29k and truck is still running fine. It goes in one ear and out the other to me.

For some things you need to ride with the master tech and point the problem out. Advocate for it. With my 04 Dakota with aftermarket exhaust I once went in at under 12k and maybe a few months and handed dealers the keys for a warped rotor symptom I told them was felt at 40-50 mph. Suddenly I heard my truck roaring back and fourth on an empty stretch of the lot behind the dealer. I looked out to see a guy gunning it then pumping the brakes behind the building. Not the conditions that caused the symptom to be apparent.

Then they came back in and handed me my keys and told me "cannot duplicate." I had to demand a ride in traffic with master tech who i then pointed out the problem to as it was happening, that's when they acknowledged and fixed it under the 12k/1 yr goodwill brake warranty.

I now own an f150 and there is a Walmart parking lot behind the dealer. I see techs zig zagging and zooming through an empty part of that lot looking for symptoms all the time. There may be a more deliberate test drive if you ask to go and ride shotgun with a senior tech who does more complex diagnosis and repair. They drive, you call out the symptom when it happens.

If you know it happens under certain conditions on certain types of road and it takes too much time for them to replicate that they may just be going to whatever convenient stretch of asphalt they typically use as a shortcut and dismissing you if they can't do it there

The problem I had with the loud gear clank and that it actually shoved the truck forward is unnerving. Someone told me it could be the torque converter did not work properly. It makes me wonder if something got damaged.
