Got a pretty sweet "Predator" sticker on my back glass. Truxedo tonneau. AVS in-channel wind deflectors.
So, I tried to do a search via the forum and didn't quite come up with info that I was trying to clarify. Maybe someone here can help (thanks in advance for placating my ignorance).
I heard that (some?) dealerships were beginning to "take (pre) orders" for '23 Tundra models. I've called around to some dealerships to inquire about this, primarily b/c the specifics of the vehicle might be hard to come by (6.5' bed, Platinum, 4x2, non-hybrid, Blueprint). The 6.5' bed is the kicker, I think. I'm in the New Orleans area.
So, I asked about a "custom/special" order and each dealership said that Toyota has not gotten back to taking custom/special orders, simply what's being allocated. So, the dealerships said, "we can be on the lookout for that truck and let you know if we get one". I'm assuming that by "taking orders" dealerships are noting vehicle specifics and awaiting allocations and a subsequent customer contact.
I'm thinking that this is pretty much how it is, just wanted to see if someone here knows of other avenues or contrasting information than what I've been told.
    Thanks!!

Correct. There's no such thing as a custom order, placing an order, etc with Toyota. Basically tell the dealer what you're looking for, they get an allocation matching that (or close), and they let you know. That's how it works. It's not like Ford, GM, etc where you can place a custom order down to the exact individual option you want, unfortunately.

if you want to secure a 23, once toyota announces they're available call various dealers to see if any of them have an 'allocation' for the spec you want. once you find a dealer with your desired allocation/spec, ask them to do a signed purchase agreement on the temp vin and the agreed to price. put a deposit down as well and get a copy of the paperwork. this is the only way you have a binding agreement. several folks on FB are saying they put a deposit down and when the dealer finally got the allocation they added a market adjustment or the dealer moved them around on the wait list or even skipped them. if you have the signed agreement you are protected from this bs. this is how i got mine. experience was clean and no bs.

Given that is 8/11/22, I too am looking at getting a 2023. Production to 2023 is supposed to flip in September.
My problem is that I want a very specific Tundra 1794 (Hybrid, 5.5 bed, Army Green, Cream Interior, max options), and from what I have gathered - the hard part will be getting an allocation unit to match that. One piece of advice I have received that appears to be valid - go with the highest volume dealer you can find in your region, because they will have earned the most points with Toyota Corporate to get allocation flexibility. Smaller dealerships - VERY hard to get exactly what you want, because they don't get the Toyota allocation volume.
Am I off-base in this reasoning?

High volume dealers may also mean long wait list at this point. Smaller dealers can be a good source if you want to take the initiative to search for one. I have a army green 1794 non hybrid and found it at a little dealer in Kansas. I waited 5 months before canceling my deposit at My high volume dealer down the road.

Does it have a leveling kit on it? Also I read today that 2023's they dropped the detuned standard engine on the SR's.

Lowe Toyota in Georgia has close to what you’re looking for. Saw it showcased on TundaDude34’s you tube channel the other day. Just checked their website. It still shows for sale. Not sure if that will help you

Where’d you see that? That’s definitely interesting and makes me curious why they ever detuned it at all in 2022 if true. I’d be very curious about upgrading my engine output to “standard” if I were a 2022 Tundra SR owner.

I tried finding the article but no luck. I did read that there's gonna be 2 options reg. and hybrid. But i know that doesn't mean the detuned is gone.

I know people don't like the 1st yr model of a new vehicle. But, it's not like they shut down production, retool and start back up in between years. Pretty sure the try to improve different aspects as they go along.

correct, but there are things that are corrected on the next model as well, not everything can be corrected as they go. Im trying to remember where I heard sweers talk about this in the past , but alas, I can't remember at the moment.
