As in a stripped down SR double cab? I'd be amazed at anything under $40k like 4WDWalrus said.

That's unfortunate. I also just now found out they don't make prudent work package models anymore.

Who(what) is this truck made for, to tow jetski around? I remember them mentioning they did a lot of research into their buyers and came up with fitting scenario.

I'm not sure I follow what point you're trying to make.

The truck is plenty capable of towing much more than jet skis lol.

Well, perhaps I worded it wrong. It doesn't appear to be a truck for work anymore, but rather a weekend toy for the wealthy maidens and noblemen alike.

Sounds like an era of peasants driving this toyota trucks has faded into the dark ages of inflation.

Peasants have to exclusively drive Ford or Chevy now. I think it's a new mandate or something.

Seriously, it's a damn shame affordable work trucks are becoming a thing of the past. Hell, affordable anything...

I guess I can agree to extent. These trucks - even the cheapest of trims- are too expensive for anything I'd personally consider a work vehicle. But I guess people write them off and all and that's how they justify them. I dunno.

I really think we will see stripped down work trucks when chip shortages and other thing-a-ma-bob shortages are gone.

Toyota isn't going to put parts into selling the cheapest trims possible when they can sell every single higher trim truck they make with ease.

Once we see the trucks actually get to a point that they're sitting on lots for days-weeks (if we ever see that again I guess), I suspect cheaper ones will come along.

My co-workers and I talk about this all the time, how stupid expensive trucks/cars are now. A base SR 4x4 after taxes and finance charges will be 50k it’s ridiculous. I’m just an average working class peasant so this is insane. Then once it’s paid off in 6 years it will have a ton of miles on it from being a daily and be all beat and time for a new one.

for 40K, half tons don't offer nearly the utility as the bigger class of trucks do if you're talking a basic truck meant to haul and tow. And yes, for smaller stuff its fine, lol.

*edit since its seems I pissed in peoples coffee with this

That's debatable. I do construction work and she fits in perfectly! I don't need a 2500 or some diesel to get my thing done. Cream-puff is all I'm asking. Big and roomy in the back! I drive tools and materials in the bed.

    Really lol????

might be the most ridiculous thing I have read lately.

For the past 11 years I have used my 2011 tundra to pull a 6x12 cargo trailer for work. 100s loads of mulch, dirt and gravel put into the bed and many many loads to the city dump.

I would say it’s a perfect work truck.

When I got mine end of 2010 it was $36,000.
Trd off road 4x4 and a few other options but no sunroof or navigation ect.
I don’t think a $30,000 tundra is possible in this market. Have you tried building one on the website???

I have over 470K hauling tile and setting materials daily in my 2011. I have operated a small business 43 years. Yes it is most definitely a work truck.

Depends on the work I suppose. There are plenty of F-150 city, construction, maintenance and fleet vehicles out there.

guess it depends on how you classify it obviously. Hauling around some light stuff for a busniess is fine , I get it, your working, that’s fine.

I was kinda referring to heavier stuff especially when I was referring to work utility for 40-45k

for that you can get a Bare bones f-350 and have a hell of lot more work utility. Not a lot of gravel and mulch with a 1/2 ton payload is my point , but I get it.

didn’t mean to offend anyones half ton here

The way some tax laws are written, it’s better for a vehicle purchased for business to be more expensive… look up section 179

that may explain why the market is the way it is and why manufacturers are pushing high end trucks.

How long has it been since any Tundra was 30K?

2016. Data pulled from a random carfax review page so take it how you want. I didn't dig into Toyota though to verify that original MSRP

Lolz. Seems to me you are only pissing on yourself here.

Just highlights your inability to understand just how many people use (and only need) a 1/2 ton to complete their work.

It's only "work" if it's "heavier stuff"?

That wasn't really my point. it was that for 40K, if you need a work truck, half tons don't offer as much utility as other bigger trucks do for that dollar amount. Some of the others have multiple times the payload and towing for that price range.

I had in my mind being able to haul and tow much more for that price for a work truck when the OP asked the question, but I get it if the small payload ratings still work for trucks used for work.

I edited the offending post, so you guys can call off the 1/2 ton dogs, lol. Funny thing is, my tundra is a "work truck" too since its titled in my busniess as well. I was just thinking about how much stuff you can haul and tow for 40K and the max utility for that dollar amount.

Only trying to highlite that to some, there is more to utility than simply payload and and tow rating per $. I myself have never needed to exceed the tundras payload with my handyman business, and the ride is much better than a comparable HD truck. The fairly cushy ride adds utility for our road trips. The tundras excellent offroad abilities adds utility for hard to access jobsites and camping! The 5.7 v8 gets better mileage than most, if not all comparable HD trucks (I am considering model year) and the tundra is miles ahead of anything similar in terms of reliability.

Reliability is probably my number 1 utility concern since I don't have the need for more payload or pulling grunt. None of the other truck utility matters when it's in the shop and not out working for me. Your Ford 350 can't haul even a fraction of my 1/2 ton tundra... when it's on a lift.

Good call on rethinking your statement. 1/2 ton trucks not being useful as work trucks is a ridiculous point to argue.

    fair enough, good points

like I said my initial post was made without thinking it through all the way and I was simply thinking from a more capacity per dollar mindset in that particular moment

so , let’s call it good and move on
