2022 tundra running boards

I want to powder coat my running boards has anyone had any luck taking the plastic step plates off? I can see the pegs breaking then having to replace them.

 

@Dave55 I realize this thread is over a year old, but wondering if you ever made progress here. I have a 2018 Tundra Limited and looking into powder coating my OEM chrome running boards to all black.

 

I had oem running boards but they weren’t chrome. The were metal I powder coated them turned out beautiful. I do know before powder coating an acid is applied to strip them. They should be able to strip chrome. It’s applied like powder coating.

 

Nice. And were you able to get the plastic step plates off without them breaking? How about the end caps? I have the style in the picture attached (below)

 

End caps came off easy and the plastic step covers some of the pegs broke. I bought black bolts skinny and short and ram them through the holes for the pegs worked great if you didn’t look for them you won’t notice them. I actually broke off the rest of the pegs and put bolts through all the holes. The plastic covers actually sat down better with bolts
