My last 10K service went well (https://www.tundras.com/threads/upcoming-10k-service-questions.132416/) so I thought it might be okay to start a new thread instead of continuing the old one.

I think my truck is starting to earn the nickname of "boat". It doesn't really bother me but my wife really does not like riding in it. In full disclosure she's prone to getting sea sick. But of all the vehicles we've owned this is the first where she doesn't want to sit in the truck for 30+ minutes. My older son sometimes doesn't like it either but he hasn't gotten car sick. Fingers crossed.

It actually got to the point recently where we debated selling the truck -- and after looking at a few alternatives I do not want to do that. The other leading option just felt cheap and comfort was even worse. I'd like to get this truck to work for us long term.

Here's some quick details about the truck:
    - Tire alignments are to the latest spec
    - Stock tires properly inflated
    - AVS suspension TSB complete for rough ride over bumps
    - That "boat" feeling is present on normal, comfort, sports, sports+ mode
    - Hybrid truck in case that matters on parts, frame dimensions, etc.

While everyone else seems to enjoy the truck I do admit it sometimes feels like I'm driving a boat. If I have 1000lbs of payload in the bed it seems to be much better but I don't have her opinion if that would solve the issue.

Are there any recommendations on things I could try to adjust? New tires? AVS suspension adjustments? New sway bar? Some other trick to reduce body roll?

I am a bit of a novice in this area so thank you in advance for putting up with the question.

need more info than rides like a boat, what does that mean?

my boat rides awesome when the lake is like glass, my boat rides like shit when its blowing 25 with crosswake.

I can't see how it can be too soft in comfort and too stiff in sport+, with all the settings in between, there is a wide range there.

do you perhaps have concrete highways where the bumps match a negative frequency for the specific tundra or something ?

its a 100% improvement from the last gen if you had one, is this your first truck?

All I have to say is if you think this truck rides like a boat...which I don't know really know what that means.. I've owned A Tacoma (2009), two Silverado's (2011 and 2018), a F250 (2015), and a ram 1500 (2014) with 4 corner air and I can say with a decent sample size that the Tundra is the best riding truck I've ever had (I do not have AVS though). If you think this truck rides poorly, you're not going to be happy with what your other options ride like from the Big 3. Maybe switch out the AVS for some Dobinson's MRR's and Dobinson's Springs too so you can tune what ride you want??

The OP obviously never owned a Gen 2 or 2.5 Tundra, if he thinks the Gen 3 handles like a boat.

My wife and I took a 3000 mile road trip when I only had 400 miles on my 2023 1794. She said it was a huge improvement over my previous 2015 1794. I have to agree.

my wife said, I don't feel sick when I ride in it anymore, lol.

in fairness , the roads here absolutely BLOW, so Im sure others are fine with the older truck ride, but the new one is 100% better, rides awesome

Is it your driving style? The truck does pitch and roll a lot compared to other cars…

If it's pitching, rolling, and wallowing that's the problem perhaps install some digressive shocks? However your comment about it settling down with a load is confusing to me. Normally a truck feels tighter with a tendency to bounce more sharply over bumps when empty and ride softer and more wallowy (Boat like) like when loaded.

Wow ... thank you for all the responses. Doing the best I can to reply.

LOL yes "boat" is not a good description. While I've been both a driver and passenger in plenty of trucks, it is the family's first actual truck. Had it since Aug'22 and I've put about 11.5K miles on it. She tends to get nauseous every time she rides in it ; now she doesn't want to be a guinea pig for any of the AVS settings. Plus I don't really have a good description from her why it bothers her. Not a lot to work with I know. But I do know the only other time I've seen her as sea sick is when we literally were on a large cruise ship ages ago. Back then it was the boat rocking that got to her.

Yeah I don't know how to describe it. This is the only vehicle she has ever gotten nauseous in and she can't explain why. Never had an issue in any prior vehicles (Chevy Malibu, Volvo S70, two Prius', Subaru Outback, and a current gen Sienna). None of them trucks of course.

I can believe I wouldn't like the other truck options out there. I tried a test drive in the F150 Lightning recently and, personally, I think the 3rd gen Tundra is miles ahead on comfort.

After riding/driving in a few F150's, a few U-Hauls, an old Dodge RAM, etc. ... I agree this truck is nice.

    LOL. :)

See comment above about all the older vehicles we have had little issue with. I live near about 200 roundabouts so I do wonder if body roll is more her issue.

I probably got lucky. The few times I've had 1000+ lbs. in the bed they were short runs from the hardware store back home. The truck felt more ... planted? ... with the ground. It was enough of a difference that I noticed it (no complaints either way) and I question if the added weight would have made a difference to others besides me.

I started to wonder about shocks and sway bars myself after reading this thread. But I can't even recall the last time I ever had to tweak any suspension on any vehicle I owned.

Try sport + , that really tightens things up and reduces roll etc in my experience, plus boost is fun , ha!
