    Hello Fellow Tundra Owners,

Like many others, while enjoying the rear window down on my new Tundra, I was experiencing a noise coming from the bed when going over small bumps. This was a combination of creaking and knocking sounds. After some trial and error, I sorted out what the culprits were for me, and thought I would share.

The first thing I noticed was the plastic bed rail caps would make a rattle noise if I just tapped on them gently with my hand so I added a thin gasket between the plastic cap and the Bed rail to eliminate that movement.

The second thing I addressed was the tailgate support cables knocking around. Turns out a 1/2" ID o-ring did the trick to deaden the quick disconnect movement noise.

Lastley, I narrowed down the creaking noise (which almost sounded like a pop or knock sometimes) to the passenger side front bed bolt area. There is a piece of what looks like a very thin anti-friction pad between the Bed and Frame. I loosened each bolt on the bed and lifted it enough to put a plastic shim cut from a large zip tie in between the bed and the frame and re-tightened the bolts.

Now I only hear lovely exhaust and turbo noises.

Below are some pictures for reference:

You sir are a gentleman and a scholar. I most definitely will do this. It drives me crazy when I roll down the rear window hearing those noises. Excellent job and write up !

I may be doing this too. That is good. Good stuff doesn't travel as fast. You messed up when you put (solved) on there.

Adding to this, the bed cleets are a source of noise too. Anytime the tailgate or a door is closed they rattle and make a springy noise. They're chintzy and easily removed. My 2011 tacoma had them and they made noise too.

I never had the bed rattle but if I push on it from the side towards the bulkhead it creaks and pops. I don’t know if it’s the sheet metal panel doing it or where it attaches underneath but if I don’t touch it doesn’t exist so I have to resist

Have also noticed the chain that hangs down from the spare tire mount can rattle. Zip tie it so it can't move around

My bed was making a creaking noise too. Multiple places. I re-torqued the bed bold and nothing, took the bolts out and lifted the bed us a little and put some grease between the bed mounts and the frame. Took 10min. That worked! If it happens again down the road I will use some thin sheet delrin cut to fit in place on the grease.

Going to try these suggestions. When I roll down the rear window, the bed squeaks too much.

Excellent information. I am heading into the shop now to try these tricks. I am going to try the grease first before I do the shim technique for the bed. What is the torque specs on the bed bolts? Is 36 ft lbs correct that I saw posted on another site?

Wow what difference. So nice and quiet. Until now the only thing I didn't like about the truck was the composite bed. Now I LOVE it. Thanks for the info and if you have the proper torque specs please send them.

Did you grease, or shim, or both?

    How about the rear window?
If I lower my rear widow some, it's making crazy rattling noises over bumps!

Dealership says it's normal and they all do it.

Anyone has issues with the back window rattling?

I only greased it. I used Evinrude triple guard grease. Stuff doesn't attack rubber or plastic, hell it stays on a prop at 70 plus mph so I figure it won't wash away. I only took it for a quick spin and walked around in the bed. It's quit has a mouse so I am pretty sure it's fixed. The noise Kap1 is talking is having I bet is the bed knock. Mine was horrible when I towed. The frame flexes more when towing so it was real load. Thanks bsulli91.

Glad so many folks are finding this useful!

I couldn’t find the torque specs, so when I loosened the bolts, I marked the head and turned it off a 1/4 then tightened back to the same spot with my torque wrench and it seemed to be around 30flbs so I went with 35 for good measure assuming there was some settling. Looks like 36flbs is the winner per Tundrafarms last post.

Ultimately, I have decided I would get 6 lubricant filled nylon washers from mcmastercarr.com for a more permanent fix. I like the grease idea too so figured I would combine best of both worlds. I will let everybody know the results once I get them in and run for a few days.

If I push in the circled area it makes a popping noise. Either the bracket is loose or the body sheet metal is warped or something.

I’d spend more time to look and remove the wheel liner but 90% sure tundra will be gone in 2 weeks.
