I have a 2022 Tundra with 8300 miles. I was getting approximately 19 mpg city and a little better than 21 freeway. Drove to Michigan and back to Florida with an enclosed trailer for the first half of the drive (FL to MI). Got about 9.8 mpg as I expected. Got around 20.1 to 21.4 going back to FL with just the family in the truck. Now, I am somehow getting an average of 14.1 city driving and made a trip to northern GA and back and got 15.3 on the freeway. What they heck!?!? Anyone have any guesses? Dealer said they have found no codes. Just having the latest 2 recalls taken care of right now and hoping that fixes it.

Differences in gas maybe? Like e10 vs e30 or something? I know ethanol will decrease your fuel economy, though this seems to be more of a decrease than you would expect to see from it. Could be any number of things. Do you set your fuel economy thing to reset on each fill-up? Thats the way I have it set to track mine anyway, and I get about 16.5 mpg with probably 85% city/local driving and 15% highway. I figure it gives me a more accurate representation of my fuel economy when it is reset more frequently. Takes out the outliers from something like a long road trip where I will average 20 mpg.

Yes hand calculated. My number came very close to the number on the dash but yes I calculated.

I didn’t know I could change how that dashboard one calculated it. I normally just reset when I fill it but I also do my own math. It was really odd, I play my own game of trying to get good fuel economy around town. And when it dropped that much I was truly confused. Especially with the freeway being so low. It was a trip I drove a little fast on but not so fast I would have expected below 19ish. They did the 2 latest computer recalls today (it was in the dealer when I originally posted), and I do think I already notice a smoother throttle response. May just be in my head though. I’ll post back after this tank. Filled up on my way home.

I've heard people call it everything BUT 1794. It's not really their fault, Toyota picked a 4-digit PIN as the name for a trim level. My favorite misnomer by far is people calling it the Tundra 1984. I don't remember George Orwell talking about pickup trucks in his dystopian-themed novel, but I guess I'm mistaken!

I can't point you to exactly how I managed that, but it is definitely in the settings of the dash somewhere. Should save you a bunch of clicking around resetting fuel economy every fill-up anyway.
