    Hi guys,

I wanted to write up a quick, no nonsense post about a “perfect” hitch lock setup. Many of these floating around Amazon will NOT work for your Tundra. However, the one I found is simply great and wanted to share in case others were in the same boat as me.

More importantly, this lock is large enough to allow for the use of the safety pin (see pics below):

Can’t they just steal the rest of the clip pin parts of that hitch?

I thought the same exact thing before I purchased!

They can take the pins but not the actual hitch assembly. They would be quickly disappointed.

I see the center swivel pin that’s built in. The clip pins just allow the swivel to be locked into place. Got it.

Couldn't you put a pipe over the end of the lock and bend till it snapped or back and fourth until it snapped?

Definitely. This isn’t impenetrable by any means. The area is tight though so it wouldn’t be simple.

Eddie, this one looks like it does not have a safety pin. If this is correct then it is very dangerous to use. After I bought my 2023, I went down a rabbit while regarding hitches and locks. I learned about how these locking units can fail and fall off during driving/towing. Meaning if the slider pin works its way out out and chains aren’t properly installed, this results in a disaster.

Or if one uses a lock with a safety pin, this eliminates this possibility as even if the locking head came off, the PIN would secure the hitch all by itself.

See below. The pin is installed but it’s hard to see.

That's a very nice hitch. I personally don't have my hitch installed on the truck unless I am towing. I am coming from an F-350 to a Tundra. I sold my 16' dump trailer. So now the primary double axle trailer that I will be towing is an enclosed 14' aluminum snowmobile trailer. He likes a 4" drop to be level and have his four feet evenly on the ground. I bought a fixed four inch drop ball mount. The link to that BW shows 3" drop, however they do show a part number for a five inch drop in the questions and answers. The lock system is nice on that BW. I had (Still have, it's for sale) a GEN Y hitch for my F-350. To truly lock it while on a snowmobile trip, I would need three dog bone locks. I am liking the fixed 4" drop for the Tundra. It stows easily under the seat in a bag. The fixed hitch also keeps the ball a little closer to the truck.

Pretty sad if someone wants to steal a hitch. But again, they steal spare tires.

I have had a B&W hitch for yearssss. No issues and has all three balls. I will say that while I have never had a hitch pin lock come undone in 30 years, it’s still a possibility. I use a master lock SS lock pin. I guess I could drill and install a cotter pin.

The orings keep it in place, they're on there tight and keep the pin from rattling. I could see the safety pin being a good safety feature.

Do you have a link to the hitch itself?
