I have had my Tundra for a year now and have been enjoying with one exception. The gas gauge intermittently does not work correctly. For example:

First story: I have a 1/2 tank of gas, I fill it up, the gauge still reads 1/2 full. I can stop / start the truck multiple times over multiple days. The gauge does not move off the 1/2 as I drive. If I stop and fill up the tank again, it reads full.

This has happened about 4 times. The Dealer told me to bring it in next time it fails. I did, they said it was a known problem, and Toyota was working on the problem. The last checkup I had, there was still no corrective action.

Second story: I have a little over a 1/2 a tank of gas and I launched my boat. The ramp might have been at a 20 degree angle (I wonder if this is a factor). My wife drives the truck / trailer up to the parking lot. When I get the truck to load the boat, the gauge says I have a full tank of gas. I drove the truck for several days and watched the gauge get back down to 1/2 a tank of gas before I filled it back up (and it took more than 1/2 tank of gas).

On multiple occasions, my gas gauge has come off the full mark, only to return to the full mark after a stop and restarting.

I would like the dealer to replace the sending unit.

Have any of you experienced this kind of problem?

My 22 has had some erratic fuel gauge readouts along with low oil pressure readouts. There is a software update for both errata and it has been available for many months and helped with my truck on both issues. Also a bottle of Techron occasionally could help keep the sensor clean. I use Costco gas or any Top Tier rated fuel instead of Techron.

Sooo, you got two options really. The first would be T-SB-0022-23 https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2023/MC-10238134-9999.pdf

Also the easiest way to reset the fuel gauge yourself is to park level, turn off the engine while "D", wait 2 seconds and shift to "P". Once in Park watch and the gas gauge will reset. It won’t correct till after you are in park, then turn off the truck.

Thanks guys for the replies. I read the TSB and it appears to nail the problem.

Next time it happens I will try Adam B's suggestion.

I appreciate this forum. It is a great way to get answers.

This just happened to my 2022. Adam B's solution worked like a charm. Thanks Adam

    Lots of stuff!
This seems to be something that we are all stuck with. It is a problem with the 2022's, 23's, and it looks like the 24's as well. It seems to be software related.

Adam's reset procedure is a good one to use if it happens to you.

I took mine in for a service last year and asked them to perform the software flash based on the TSB and they told me that Toyota has not given the tools or software to update the system but to check back in 6 months.
Since then, I really haven't given it much thought as the truck has a bunch of recalls that seem to be much bigger to deal with like the engine recall, etc...

There are some very long threads on the fuel gauge issue on this forum if you are up to reading the reams of posts!
