posted this originally on reddit, based on feedback from members there posting here as well.

2022 Tundra Limited (delivered 9/22) with 8k miles. The paint in the roof channel on the passenger side is severely peeling... all the way from the front to back. Large segments already missing, the rest cracked and lifting at one edge or the other. Just a matter of time it will all be gone.

Not sure when it started, I never noticed it before, but then I wasn't looking for it either.

Drivers side looks like it is starting to bubble in places (can press and feel the paint flex) but so far is intact.

The grey "primer" has a silicon-like feel to it. Not sure what it is, it is slightly pliable but not really flexible.

Several folks on reddit mentioned they see wavy lines in their channels. If you zoom in on the pic to the grey undercoat you can see where it has imperfections in the application, so any top-coat applied over it is going to be wavy once finished.

Paint is clearly delaminating from whatever the undercoat is.

Set up a service appointment on Friday this week at the dealer to have them look at it.

    Anyone experienced something slmilar?

Thanks for coming over and posting this. I think this will be a new topic for all. Q? What color name is your truck? Hard to tell exactly in the picture - Thanks !!

Whatever the 2022 black was called. Midnight Black? I'd have to go look at the sticker to verify.

This is a bummer. I was looking at the top of my truck this weekend and saw there was no black runner all the way down the roof. I thought for sure my 2011 had it all the way front to back.

Thanks for sharing. You absolutely need to have this fixed at dealer’s expense. Completely unacceptable on a new truck. Don’t take no for an answer.

Not that this makes it any better but instead of putting black plastic in the channels it’s the same hard gel like substance that you will see on the inside of the doors that covers the weld spots where a body tech could peel the doors to fix them if you were in an accident etc. they do the same for the roof channels.

that being said they should fix it immediately. I really like my tundra, best bang for you buck (a lot of bucks) you can get now compared to ram, ford and Chevy in my opinion but my god have they dropped the ball on some things. It will be covered, just hope they do it quick and correctly for you!

Also saw this on Reddit. Thanks for posting it here too.

I have a ‘23 with the wavy channel too. I was wondering what it was. Pressed on it today and it’s squishy under the paint and feels like rubber. Mine is not peeling or cracking at all, but I’d imagine this could end up being a bigger issue down the road.

Has anyone had the dealer investigate?

Mine (‘23 Army Green with ripples since new) (really hard to take a good picture of, but you can see the difference between the smooth metal roof and rippled channel)

Guys, looking at my 2024 Tundra. I believe this is a mastic-type tape... not a painted surface. I believe the painted body is under this.
The tape on my truck appears clear to me (it's 15degs out, I didn't look too closely)... or possibly even color matched.

I'll take a better look later, but I'm quite confident that your paint is not peeling.

    Lots of stuff!
It looks like a covering material that goes over a weld or chanel?

I was looking at Sherpa's website where they show a foam material under the plastic. It gets removed to install the Sherpa roof rack.

    https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0506/7377/8878/files/Grizzly_Instructions_V1.pdf?v=1661985121

It may be that they painted the plastic in-place and the bond between the steel and plastic is not solid so any paint that bridges the two material just cracks off.

If it were mine, I would just run 2 beads of color matching caulking like Dow CCW or 795 (only because I have some of this) to each side of the plastic and leave it.

I have already used this caulking to glue the side mirror camera panels on to avoid having them fly off!

    I thought the same!

Maybe try wiping it clean with a Magic Eraser. Just avoid pressing too hard as the paint or plastic could crack.

Yes, it's mold. I clean the car and half of it comes off, but in two weeks it comes back out. the car has 15000 miles only. I'm going to try Magic Eraser.

A product we use when we go on vacation and stay in condos where there’s a little mold in the showers is Mold Armor. Walmart carries it and it works great, spray it on and let it sit, the mold disappears or whatever is left can be wiped off. It also helps prevent mold but we only use it in the bathroom, not sure if it’s safe for your Tundra.

Was wondering if it's somehow related to salt air? The pictures look pretty coastal so thought you might be near the ocean? Interesting that it's only on that one section though.

I took it to a Toyota body shop and they said that it looks like the material it's made of and the environment I live in. The car is in perfect condition, only that part has a mold.
