This has happened from new, but doesn’t happen all of the time and honestly I always chalked it up to my bad driving habits. 24k on the 2021 sr5 double cab.
If I am slowing down when in 10-20 mph stop n go traffic, there are times when it’s coasting or I tap the breaks and then and go to just nudge the truck forward and it will hold gear, engine rev and then shift and jerk forward. There isn’t really any clunk sound or anything. The truck has engine brake assist, which is activated by tapping the break and releasing which works well when I use it coming down hills. I almost wonder if it’s a programming aspect related to that. If I am more deliberate (I.e. not lazy) about my slowing, braking, and then accelerating it doesn’t do it nearly as often. I would say this is a weekly occurrence, I drive in the Wash DC area. What are your thoughts? Just try to drive better and see if it doesn’t happen and Live with it? Or something else is going on? I’ve driven trucks (1970s, 80s, 2000-09 models) so I’m used to some clunky shifting but this is pretty noticeable and different.

While my 21 shifts much softer than my 08 shifts, I have no difference slowing down from one truck to another.
It would not hurt to have it looked at your dealership, our warranty's are up soon:eek2:.

I’ve been reading up on old posts related to this type of complaint and it sounds like it’s normal, and the transmissions have a great track record they are just not as smooth as others.

My 21 does this similar shifting. I find when going down a small hill and not completely stop when turning, sometimes the tranny will rev and then catch. It's odd. I had the dealer look at but they could not find anything wrong. I sort of just gotten used to it. Coming from a 8 Speed GMC, this is minor.

I think its normal. My 2020 does that when coming out of the engine brake as well. Depends how I accelerate coming out of it as to whether it is smooth or clunky.

I hear ya there, my(ex) dealership broke my window changing the oil! Free oil change was not even worth it.
I pretty much am always in tow haul mode and living in the mountains, I tend to have it in manual a lot but have never experienced what you are or I am not recognizing it. I have 36K on mine and have towed quite a few cars and trailers. I think they shift too much if left to themselves lol.

Don't quote me on it, but I have a feeling it's fluid.

when I first got the truck it did a bit of that, i.e. bit lazy, when I added the transmission cooler I also quickly change the fluid, then it got much better.

new valvebody totally get rid of that, but 1-2 shift can be harsh when unloaded.

My 1-2 shift has always felt a bit abrupt. Especially when cold. Guess it’s normal.
