Hey brothers don’t light me up too bad just wanted to hear thoughts on all the press and attention the 2022’s are getting. The interior looks killer I always liked the tough stance of the tundra crewmax but after getting my pandemic tundra a loaded limited in mgm I can’t help but wonder if I made a mistake not waiting after seeing the price differential. I’ve been de grandpa-ing my tundra all color matched heritage grille backflip 6112 Trd shifter paint protection film. I’m incredibly blessed to have what I have I guess i just got discouraged after the first inspection and the master tech found two coolant leaks under the intake along with the new detail crew scratching the blackout tape chipping the back of the cab causing a bed off repaint to do it right and my wife’s cup scratching the door panel so easy.

are you guys in the wait a year and trade up or y’all keeping the traditional v8?

Wow, sad to see you're having those issues so early in game.....Mine had the infamous cam tower leaks and I almost traded it in for that reason alone. Luckily they stopped leaking, God knows how. Can't blame you for considering the new Tundra, looks enticing to say the least, and the host of amenities is just the icing.

Your ‘21 had cam tower leaks? I thought that was something to watch out for down the road.

Guess I’ll be checking mine tonight.

Negative, I should have specified that mine is a 2018. But it did leak at under 20K miles.

Sorry Ardnut Trd, not trying to hijack your thread. Just answering a question.

I have no feelings toward the 2022. But then I used a iPhone6 until I upgraded to an iPhone 11 when the price dropped after the 12's came out. Another way of saying I don't try to keep up.

I'm okay with mine but its only about three weeks old. I'm coming from a 04 that I bought in December of 03.

The truck owed me nothing and I wanted the V8. I have had very good luck with Toyota between me and the wife this is our seventh one. We keep them a long time. My last two trucks carted me around for 33 years.

My hope is to get fifteen years out of this one and then buy a Gen 4 all electric.:D

Answering the appeal for feelings on 22:
    I specifically bought a 21 because
    1. I did not like the initial look of the 22 renderings (cosmetics)
    2. I wanted the last year of the V8 (reliability)
    3. I did not want the first year of a new* TTV6 (potential reliability issue)
    4. Technology in the 21 (while not considered new) was a huge upgrade for me coming from a 2003 Chevy (with no connectivity, or technology besides a 6 CD changer that would not eject— you can only listen to Evanescence so many times)
    * it was not clear to me at the time whether Toyota would use the Lexus TTV6 engine. I may be wrong but I believe the new Tundra engine is totally new.

I sold my 2018 Tundra for my 2021 Tundra mostly just because I had a feeling I wouldn't like what they'd do with the next gen Tundra, and I knew I'd eventually want a CrewMax.

So far, I'm happy with that decision.

I'm glad I got my '21 in Dec 2022. Before the supply crunch and other nonsense, I got mine for well below MSRP.

Now I believe the "market adjustments" and other crap that people are shelling out money for. Added to that, a higher MSRP on the 22s, and I don't think I would want to approach looking for a 2022 truck. The prices are just mental.

Initially I thought the 22 was ugly, now it's growing on me except the front grill. I just bought a 21 and will enjoy what I have since it's paid off and I have a few aftermarket parts. I'll see what 23 and beyond brings in terms of improvements. If I see something to my liking, then I'll make the switch. Something that really appeals to me is the CrewMax 6.5 bed option.

I have no desire for a full size truck with a V6. I will be keeping my 5.7.

So far I love my 21, 1794. Traded my 2016 Limited in on it and got almost what I paid for it new. I like having something tried and true. The auto industry in making big changes right now....electric, etc.....Hopefully all that will be settled somewhat when it's time for me to replace my current ride. No regrets at this point.....except with audio, but working on that;):rimshot:

Had a 2010 Double Cab with 185,000 miles on it and traded in on a 2021 Crewmax because I needed the front bench seat. Only paid $20,000 after trade in on a brand new truck that's going to last a long time. Keeping the 21 for a long while.

The 3rd gen will be a great truck. But there are some things about it that I think are a step back. Longer nose, larger turning radius, no front bench in any trim level. The power seems great in the hybrid at least, but it’ll be $$$ in the beginning. The jump in payload is meh. And I’m not super excited about the apparently lower-rated axles.

I still love my ‘21 and am glad I bought it when I did. It’s almost paid off. It would be fun to add a supercharger.

I like the 2022's from what I have seen. I'll take that V6 too which for my use is mainly street. Money wise? I can't see paying for it now unless I got a really good price for my '18.

got a 21 pro, Ill get the 2022 one day but prob not until 2024 or so. Waiting for availability and to hear more after a few years of use.

I expect my 21 pro will hold its value well for several years.

I am happy I bought my 2021 crewmax it is fully sorted out after all these years in production. There is also No problem getting replacement parts or aftermarket parts.
    I came from owning a 2018 F150 super crew
Eco boost it had plenty of power but was not dependable. I was in the dealer 3 times in under 36000 miles, trying to get cam phasers replaced and working properly. I dumped it for a loss. My buddy had 2 twin turbo eco boost trucks both drivers side turbos failed at about same milage. So no more turbos for me, I’ll take the last v8.

First year of production is never a good idea in my book. Also not digging the plastic bumpers and largemouth Bass grill on the 2022.

i wouldn't even consider a 3rd gen until 2023 or 2024 models are 2 or 3 years old. So in 2027 i'll be looking for a used 2024 model or maybe a new 4th generation Tacoma if my needs change and prices ever stabilize by then.

Every time I see a price sheet for 2022 I'm more OK with my 2021 purchase. It would take 2 decades of fuel savings to make up the difference.

Just my opinion. Something is always nice when there is a new design. I bought my 21 Pro because I wanted the last V8. Just like i did with my 19 C7 Z06. Our V8 trucks are going to hold value a long time. Some people just love to spend money for the newest model. If I was moving up I would be waiting at least 3 years till the new model has been out. With all this COVID going on and the mark ups you will be paying big money for that new model. Coming from my 2020 4runner Pro I still love to have. The wife and I went to get our Christmas tree on Sunday and fired this bad boy up. Nothing like this V8 sound. Driving both of my V8 vehicles it’s music to my ears.

New one is badass but I wanted the 15 year old truck with a v8. Even if the new one does everything better.

Got a 21 pro last month and absolutely love it. This was of course after waiting to see what the 22 would be like. To me the 2nd gen has the quintessential look, feel and sound of a proper truck, for me- IMHO. I love the 13’s and older and don’t get me started on 1st gens :) I am a huge fan. I have methodically looked, reviewed, test driven and basically drove it into the ground with research for years before pulling the trigger on the last run of this gen. Side note: I have done this in the past with the V8 M3…bought it before ever driving one right at the end of its production, no regrets, it was fun but got rid of it before warranty was up. Swooped up by a collector/enthusiast after he regretted selling his. M cars went boosted. Not for me, reliability is. This V8 tundra is legit (along with this forum) and I believe has accomplished the mission statement. A strong, reliable, unapologetic work horse for this market. The next one will succeed as well. It will have to sort out some issues and that’s normal and to be expected. I doubt reliability will be an issue even though it is getting more and more challenging to accomplish this, toyota knows how to level up. I could not pass up a new 2nd gen experience and look forward to seeing real testimony and enjoyment from 3rd gen owners. We are all in the tundra family and I plan on staying for the long haul. I am sorry you had those issues with yours and hope it gets sorted out.

I really like the '22s. I'm in love with my '21 and will enjoy it for several years before making the switch. Maybe around 2026 or so.

Nope. The new truck is ugly and it makes no financial sense to go rushing out spending 55-75k for an almost identical tool that I already own. Plus my current tool is newish and has a proven reliability record.

I'll go blow that money on something else.

    What immediately comes to mind:
    Supercharger for Tundra
    Rolex
    Yamaha 212xd jet boat
    E46 M3
    M2 competition

    I'm keeping mine until:
    1. My transmission burns up,
    2. I buy a travel trailer and decide it's too large to safely tow with a halfton, or
    3. My truck gets old enough, high mileage enough or worn out enough to justify buying something new (currently targeting 2035 for that)
At that point, I'll look at the following trucks:
    • Tundra
    • Sierra/Silverado 1500
    • Sierra/Silverado 3500
    • F-150
